After a hot day cooled down nicely after dark. Clear and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. ð Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. The air smells like silage and hay, a little bit muggy but not so oppressive. Hot inside still but I’ll fire up the fan and strip down in bed.
Just sitting out back looking at the fireflies ð and stars above. It would have been a nice weekend to get out of town but I made the most of it walking ðķ out to Five Rivers and around town, getting in 20,000 steps or ten miles in walking for the day.
Got down to the library ð and did some research for Save the Pine Bush and then came home, passed out in the heat, the woke up, did more research sitting by the fan then walked down to Elm Ave Park and watched the sunset ð.
Sipping on some cold water and ice cubes. ðĶ It’s a healthy drink and free, well the cost is included in my apartment except for the cost of electricity to make the ice cubes. I like apple juice ðĨĪ better but it does have a lot of sugar in it. I’ve really been trying to limit my sugar in take to avoid diabetes like my parents have.
I am glad I stayed in town because it’s just another opportunity to save money for my future. ðĩ I think a lot about my future and how things can be better if I continue to save and invest – while doing healthy things like walking a lot of steps and staying out of the mud and muck of politics. I have my views, and I’ll talk about them on the blog but I stay away from social media, rallies and protests. ðĪ I’ll do research and help causes out I care about but I’d rather stay behind the scenes. ð Kind of like work.
Money isn’t that big of an issue these days ð° but I often don’t have much laying around as I just want to invest whatever I can while continuing to learn new skills. I was looking today on See Through NY and I make the same as other Deputy Directors in my agency, and relatively speaking it’s good pay especially for Upstate. ðĨ My knowledge of GIS, Census data, R and python along with research into deeds and government databases isn’t just good for my job today and helping out saving the Pine Bush, it is developing skills for tomorrow. When the time comes to buy land, I will have a lot of advantages to knowing what I’m buying compared to a lot of people. I’m also learning a lot of valuable skills not just for my current job but also future ðŪ ones.
There are many that want to rush out ð and grab everything that is available today, blow a lot of money on fun. ðĪŠ But I’m willing to hold back in hope of a better tomorrow. It’s not that I won’t do anything fun this summer or any trips but especially in these inflationary times it’s best to hold back a bit, enjoy what is free and frugal locally without burning a lot of gas or blowing a lot of money. I know tomorrow will be better than today.
