Highest elevation highways in New York State

The highest year round highway in New York State is Ulster County Route 47 past the Winnisook Lake Club near Slide Mountain in the Catskill Mountains at 2,640 elevation.

The highest year around open highway maintained by NYSDOT is NY 16 in Knapp Creek, Cattaraugus County just north of the Pennsylvania border 2,370 elevation.

    We would take the much slower scenic route 47 from time to time when going to our place. I recall hiking up Slide with my wife half a life ago. We hauled up a full 2-liter bottle of water for nothing. Only took a few sips, and some seriously needy guy claiming hypoglycemia got more of it and a chocolate bar we had. I hate parasite losers, but that one got lucky. Good views from there anyway.
