Good Morning – November 3, 2021

Good morning! What day is it? The day you steal all the lawns signs with Ds, Os and Ps for Target Practice, of course. 🎯

Shooting lawn signs is a fun activity. Those “Vote No on Prop 6” offer many opportunities to blast holes in them with your 22, assuming you can get ammo or more likely have enough stock piled. Just makes sure not to leave them in the gravel pit when you are done. I am sure that there are those who whine about the lead dust and the plastic fragments, but my in grand scheme of things, who cares? Just don’t litter and have fun in the woods.

Partly cloudy at the freezing point in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind. Cold start to the morning, the first hard freeze of the year. We still have a frost occassionally in Delmar, although this year it took until the 3rd of November. Latest ever, I believe. That should put a number on the remaining leaves. 🍂

The frost gave everything a very golden look ❄ and it is a beautiful but cold morning. 🌅 I really like the feeling of cold on my face and these very crisp autumn mornings. Three days of work and then a week off for autumn vacation. Traffic is very backed up on the Dunn Memorial Bridge due to the paving and the ramp closure. I guess that’s bad news for the construction 🚧 debris haulers.

I am glad that Election Day has come and gone. 🐴 🐘 I was happily surprised that the Democratic team did so well in Bethlehem with things trending so much the other parts of the country. Except for the cities most of the rest of the county went pretty red although the hilltowns are tiny number of voters and Guilderland Town Supervisor was uncompetitive. Proposition 6, the Complete Streets imitative went down in Delmar which is kind of disappointing because a turning lane would make Delaware Avenue so much easier to drive. I kind of liked Tiger 🐯 more than I should have because he’s friends with one of my buddies but I know he was no fan of Prop 6. That said, I’m not sure what the highway superintendent does besides overseeing the Transfer Station and the DPW. Not really a policy position.

That said, I think people focus too much on politics 🗳 when they should be more concerned about their own problems in their lives and not blaming the politicians for what is wrong with their own lives. 👪 A lot of things are baked into the system that elected officials despite their pontificating can’t really change. And democracy has all kinds of perversions that mean that voting really is an indirect method of change. Despite what the colored television 📺 tells you, there are other things to life.

Went to the library 📚 and got a bunch of books to read on vacation. For a while I wasn’t sure what I wanted to read 📖 but I think 🤔 I ended up with a good selection of books on my everything from cattle 🐮 to data science. 🖥 It’s good to have varied interests as they have only so many books in the library.
