Good Morning – August 18, 2021

Good morning! What day is it? An awful humid one for sure. πŸ’¦

I don’t know why it feels so humid but it sure does. β˜” I do see a lot of rain on the radar.

Cloudy and 71 degrees in Delmar, NY.☁️ There is a south breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 67 degrees. The skies will clear Friday around 9 am.

And so it’s Hump Day. πŸͺ Out for the morning walk 🚢🏻 and then its off to catch the bus downtown. 🚏 Probably work at home Thursday and Friday although I might go in Friday as I have a lot of Zoom meetings. πŸ“Ή

I was thinking last night after listening to the news πŸ“° that it’s been 20 years since I started college πŸŽ“ the beginning of the Afghanistan War and the 9/11 attacks. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡² A generation has come and gone in the mean time, I’m getting gray, entering my prime earning years, making and saving money for a better tomorrow. πŸ’΅

The war has to end πŸͺ– and most wars are messy when they end, especially when there are no clear winners. Did we expect at this point for Afghanistan πŸ‡¦πŸ‡« to end better then Vietnam πŸ‡»πŸ‡³? Ultimately the decision of local government falls on the people and if they want the Taliban to rule, that’s their provocative.

Been learning the EPA’s Air Quality System API for querying data on air pollution. πŸ’ It’s kind of neat as you can pull a full years worth of hourly pollution sensor data into a PANDA data frame to find out when the air is really polluted. Unfortunately, there are relatively few pollution sensors but you can get an idea of how clean or dirty the air.

Also been exploring importing of Albany County Election Results into PANDAS for automated processing. πŸ”’ It can be done if you read the headers correctly but I find to export the tables properly, you have to convert it to text using pdftotext in layout mode.
