Good Evening – January 16, 2022

Good afternoon! Not quite as cold as I feared out here walking at Partridge Run. β›…

Out for a walk at Partridge Run for a while before heading out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. I was going to go out to Hannacroix Ravine Preserve in Berne, but I decided I wanted a longer walk, and there already a bunch of people with dogs walking out there. Plus I kind of wanted to try out that Merlin bird sound detection app more, which I figured would be better in the remote country in Berne.

Partly cloudy and 17 degrees at the Partridge Run Game Management Area. β›… There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. πŸƒ. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌑️ We are getting a good snow storm tonight, but even up here, I don’t know how long the snow will last with things warming up. In Delmar, it might just be rain by morning, and things melting quickly. I am not convinced this snow storm they’ve been threatening as the worse thing ever, amounting to much to at all.

Out hiking around, exploring some of Partridge Run. 🐦 Just the usual loop along the washed-out and abandoned Partridge Run Road, up to the Switz Kill Falls, then along Wood Duck Pond, then bushwhack to the Gulf overlook, then along the ridge, to the Long Path overlook then back to my truck. That said, I ended up cutting back to Kingfisher Road, as there was small-game hunter out along the ridge and I didn’t want to fuck his hunt up any more then I did when I spotted him in his camo. πŸ‡πŸ”«

The Switz Kill was pretty darn frozen, ❄️ the falls were pretty nice. I ended up not getting as many good pictures as I had hoped, because I put the SD card in my camera that is worn out and is permanently locked. I probably should toss that card, in other words turn it into CO2 the next time I’m up in the woods with a fire. πŸ”₯ Been playing with that the bird sound detect function in Merlin bird app. πŸ”Š It’s pretty cool, you record the bird calls, and it helps detect what birds are around, so you know what to look for based on the call. πŸ¦†
