February 2, 2021 Morning

Good morning! Happy Ground Hog Day 🐻 ! We all know what he has predicted, with the help of the Deep State. What else could predict that in correlation with the National Weather Service’s existing 8-14 day outlook. Four weeks to Read Across America Day πŸ“š . Nothing like reading a good book on a colder winter’s day. Although lately I’ve been reading more PDF e-Books on my phone. Light snow showers and 26 degrees in Delmar, NY. ❄ There is a north breeze at 14 mph. πŸƒ with gusts up to 25 mph πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨. The current wind chill is 14. There are 11 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ ️Things will start to thaw out at Thursday around noontime. 🌑️

Kind of a cold and snowy Ground Hog Day. 🐻 I guess that is to be expected for February 2nd, although it looks like the weather may trend colder by mid-month. But at a certain point, especially past Presidents Day, it gets harder and harder to have extended cold periods due to the noon-time sun angle pushing 40 degrees with similar average high temperatures. The higher sun angle means more solar energy hits the earth, which warms up.

No morning walk today, as I think the sidewalks are still quite snowy. 🚢Instead, I’m going to dig out around the truck and clean the snow off it. We might get a few more inches of snow throughout the day, but my view is it’s better to keep up with the snow while it’s falling down, so it’s less work. πŸ›» The tarp over the truck cap means that once the snow stops, I can just remove it, shake off the snow, and then the truck cap should be bare of snow and the solar panel topping things off as soon as the sun returns. 😎

Thursday I will do my shopping and go to the library. πŸ›’ That way I get the groceries I need and I can download/put together any projects that require big files like the static 3D aerial photos or Youtube videos for watching. ⬇ I actually did watch some of the videos πŸ“Ό I downloaded over the weekend when I was at the folks house and the library on Friday. A pretty ordinary week, maybe Bill Murray would approve, but then again I’ve actually never seen the film Ground Hog Day.

Today will snow. Patchy blowing snow. 🌨 High of 30 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around January 22nd. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning, which became light snow by afternoon. The high last year was 37 degrees. The record high of 53 was set in 1981. 11.9 inches of snow fell back in 2015.❄

So far no real blowing snow. 🌬 But it’s something to watch for as the day progresses. But alas it’s kind of the winds of change, it’s going to be a more seasonable 34 degrees Thursday and maybe 38 or even 40 come Friday. 🌧 Rain and snow for Friday, which might cut down a lot on snow, but Saturday looks good for skiing — high temperatures only around 30 so things won’t be too sloppy.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:10 pm with sun having an altitude of 30.7Β° from the due south horizon (-40.1Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 10.1 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:29 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (241Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (248Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:11 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 5:40 pm, which is one minute and 19 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:14 pm. At sunset, look for snow 🌨 and temperatures around 30 degrees. The wind chill around sunset will be 19. β˜ƒοΈ There will be a north breeze at 14 mph. Today will have 10 hours and 2 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 24 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of snow. Cloudy 🌨, with a low of 25 degrees at 3am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 14th. Maximum wind chill around 15 at 1am; North wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. In 2020, we had light snow in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 27 degrees. The record low of -18 occurred back in 1955.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 31. β˜€ Should be cold of skiing. Sunday, a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31. 🌨 Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 33 degrees.

🌹🌻🌼Only 46 days remain until the first day of calendar spring!🌹🌻🌼 The Ground Hawg says no early spring for you. He’s kind of a soup nazi, I guess.

One month πŸ“… from now will be Read Across America Day πŸ“š when the sun will be setting at 5:46 pm with dusk at 6:14 pm. The average high temperature is 32 degrees, with a record high of 61 in 1895.

All days must end
