February 14, 2023 Morning
Good morning! Happy Valentines Day. β₯ Finally warm and bright enough to walk at 6:15. I think it’s the first time in months. But the days are getting longer. It’s a nice dawn, with a declining half π moon above. Not sure if it will be the best sunrise ever though due to the clouds in the east.
Mostly cloudy and 37 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Breezy, οΈ18 mph breeze from the northwest π¬ with gusts up to 28 mph π¨π¨π¨. But it’s a fairly warm breeze by February standards. Temperatures will drop below freezing at Friday around 3 pm. βοΈ
It’s nice to get out early, it tends to better equalize the time in the morning π₯ to have breakfast and get my clothes ironed before work and shower πΏ. Having a single pool of time β just means if one step runs longer I don’t fall behind on my SC especially as the express leaves about 15 minutes before the local.
Today will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny β, with a high of 47 degrees at 2pm. 11 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 20th. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. The high last year was 28 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 1946. 23.5 inches of snow fell back in 1914.β
Going to be a nice day, something like the first day of calendar spring. π· But then again that’s only a month away and it’s been quite mild. Too much sunlight in the morning means I have to draw the shades but later in the afternoon the sun is nice. Not sure if I’ll get out at five to take the express home but so be it.
Solar noon π is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 34.3Β° from the due south horizon (-36.5Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 8.8 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 4:46 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (246Β°). πΈ
The sunset is in the west-southwest (253Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:26 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 2 seconds with dusk around 5:54 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 6:28 pm. At sunset, look for clear skies π and temperatures around 43 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 6 mph. Tomorrow will have 10 hours and 37 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 41 seconds over today..
Today is pay day which is nice π΅ as I think my credit card bill is due soon π³ and it’s been higher with inflation and the many trips that I made this year. Probably also need to start saving for my tax bill and car insurance π which will be another chunk of change. But it looks like until Friday my heat will be off which is good.
Tonight will have increasing clouds β, with a low of 32 degrees at 11pm. 14 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 2nd. Light and variable wind becoming south 6 to 11 mph after midnight. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became light snow by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 17 degrees. The record low of -22 occurred back in 1943.
Right now, a split verdict on the weekend. π Saturday, sunny, with a high near 38. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Typical average high for the weekend is 37 degrees.
Fairly mild but maybe cloudy β for the second half of the weekend. I guess it would be kind of nice to get out of town this weekend. βΊ There isn’t a lot of snow outside of the Adirondacks so trails might be muddy especially after Thursdays rain.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 40 βοΈ when the sun will be setting at 5:44 pm with dusk at 6:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 41 and 26 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 40 degrees. We hit a record high of 63 back in 1903.
