Why do they keep stealing New York State interstate numbers for completely different highways in other states?
No other state has had their interstate highway numbers reused like New York State.
- I 84 – Oregon, Idaho, Utah
- I 86 – Idaho
- I 87 – North Carolina
- I 88 – Illinois
What is even more obnoxious is that they still have unused interstate numbers, I 1, I 3, I 6, I 7, I 13, I 92 and I 98 don’t exist.
Places Named After States in New York State
Don’t believe me, check it on Google Maps. The drive from Alabama to Wyoming is only 32 miles, going through Batavia, NY in Western NY.
Now on to the state name game. Be aware, I have only driven through only 9 of the 14 census designated places in New York named after other states (driven through Delaware (County), Florida, Maine, Maryland, (New) Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont(ville), and Texas) or with a similiar name or origin to other state names.

Wildfire smoke blankets Central NY, not as a bad locally in the Capital Region.
Notice the blocking on the east, trapping the smoke over CNY, while the Taconics had clouds. This was probably later in the evening yesterday, after the clouds moved to our east, which is why locally it was fairly clear for a while.
