Grey, cloudy weather today. And some snow on tap for Wednesday.

The week has come back around again. It’s February. Kind of a gray cloudy start to the month, but we are expected to miss the snowstorm that hitting New York City today. Some projections show Albany getting 6-12” of snow on Wednesday. I am fine with that, as we could use some snow to help purty up the landscape. I much prefer snow on the weekdays, especially if it seems likely that it will clear up by the weekend.

Why I Believe Punxsutawney Phil Didn’t See His Shadow

I am of the opinion that the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club got it wrong when they declared Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow.

The facts are clear.

1) There was no sunshine in Punxsutawney, PA this morning. This is a fact confirmed by the National Weather Service’s history record for nearby Dubois, PA.

woodchuck2) Look at the video from this morning’s ceremony. It was clearly dark, foggy, and no sign of sunshine in sight.

The Ground Hog must see his shadow for there to be six more weeks of winter. Clearly this isn’t the case.

 

Weekend Forecast Looks Warm and Crappy.

Looks like we will have a warm but crappy weather weekend on tap.

Sunday’s weather was supposed to be nice then the forecast made it sound crappier then nicer. Here’s the latest — warm but fairly crappy weather for outdoors stuff.

weekendI think they just spin the dial around every morning, and pick a random forecast. I would like to go somewhere exotic this weekend, but preferably not too many miles away. Maybe somewhere in the Catskills?

Doesn’t Look Good for the Ground Hog

Sunday is Ground Hog Day. It looks almost certain that Phil will see his shadow in Punxsutawney. Going to be in the 30s and mostly sunny. So no early spring, at least not in Pennsylvania. And a lot of angry Pennsyltuckian rednecks wanting to get their revenge on Phil.

woodchuckThe ground hog in Pennsylvania might get a one day reprieve due to Pennsylvania’s blue laws against hunting most species including Ground Hogs on Sundays, but it sure doesn’t look good for him thereafter. At least it’s going to be fairly cold for the following week, so most Ground Hogs will be safely hidden underground in their burrows.

Beautiful Morning Out Today

Quite a bright and sunny morning out, much warmer feeling then the thermometer would suggest.

Bright and sunny but cold. But it’s January, so one should expect the weather to be frigid. That said, riding the bus to work, you run from your house to the bus stop, and if you time it properly, your exposure to cold is minimal. The bright sun makes it not seem so cold.
