Happy Pride Month! ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

I concede I’ve been a bit slow at switching the CSS to reflect pride month, but it’s now upon us. One of the great strengths of nation is it’s diversity, and we should let people live as they so please as long as they’re not impacting our own lives. Live and let live!

That loud bang was a surprise ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Propane hose had a leak this morning, a bubble started to form in it and before I could get the tank off it went bang. After a WTF moment, I shut off the tank and the let the burner burn off the remaining gas and breakfast continued to cook on the hot frying pan.

Not the only thing that caught fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ and leaked so far up at camp โ›บ either. Last night when I lit the lantern ๐Ÿฎ apparently I didn’t have the top fitting screwed in tight and it leaked and caught fire. Used up a bunch of water trying putting it out, ultimately it went out when I grabbed my insulated gloves ๐Ÿงค and tightened the connection but not before melting part of the lower plastic surround. Just the decorative part doesn’t impact the ignition or the knob in it. I’ll trim the melted plastic with a knife ๐Ÿ—ก.

Went for a ride along Old Route 8B last night. ๐Ÿšฒ Quiet evening, it was close to 9:30 when I got back to camp โ›บ and only barely needed the headlight on my bike. Saw a family of wild turkeys ๐Ÿฆƒ driving up and while riding this evening spotted a nice looking buck. Sat down at the infamous Robbs Creek campsite for a while then road down to the lower bridge.

Disappointed that I have no cell service here ๐Ÿ“ฑ as my phone seems to not have as good reception in many places as it once had. ๐Ÿคซ While I like the quiet I was hoping to work remote from camp and make calls about that house I was looking at. I’m going to have to head to Spectulator sooner than I expected and maybe spend all day there, though some in the kayak ๐Ÿ›ถ and beach ๐Ÿ– and not all that library working. ๐Ÿ–ฅ P

Heat wave on it’s way ๐ŸŒŠ

Is it time to cue Martha and the Vandella’s for the heath wave, do some dancing in the street or playing Billy Stewart? We’ll certainly next week. Now if it could still be 2020, I could so do the remote work thing all week in Green Mountains National Forest.

Carrot pancakes for this breakfast topped with strawberries. ๐Ÿฅ• Made three big carrots disappear with breakfast, yum with lots of fiber. Plus shredded oats for soluble fiber. And much too much too coffee. โ˜•

Back to riding the bike to work. ๐Ÿšฒ I could have ridden in on Tuesday had I discovered the broken spoke on Sunday night and not when I was leaving, but it got fixed and things are working again along with the speedometer which got soaked in that surprised rain shower on Friday. โ˜”

Listening to Dancing in the Street, ๐Ÿ•บ I am instantly brought back to the craziness that was 2020 with the pandemic. I sure wish I could get away for a week or two and work remote from the wilderness in thie upcoming heat. It’s funny to think ๐Ÿค” about that year, and how so quickly people forget about the protests and Black Lives Matter ๐Ÿ–ค and the riots that happened in many cities including Albany. Somehow people wanted to forget about the 2020 riots after the January 6th Capitol Riot. There was a lot of bad behavior that year during the pandemic but I certainly had fun.

Going to be hot. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ I am leaning towards heading out the Green Mountains โ›ฐ on Friday through late on Sunday, and then coming home, working Monday and Tuesday in the office, ๐Ÿข and then Wednesday which is Juneteenth heading up to Stewart Landing, paddling and camping there either at the roadside sites or hammock camping along the lake, ๐Ÿ›ถ and then heading up to the House Pond campsite or one of the other sites along Piseco-Powley through the following Sunday to camp โ›บ and spend a lot of quality time during the heat wave at the Potholers. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ Seems like a good way to spend some quality time. I just have to see if I have enough coverage in the office for Thursday and Friday of next week. ๐Ÿ—“ And how many targets ๐ŸŽฏ I’ll need to cut – – that could be a problem being fully off the cellphone network the second half of next week – – all depends what the work load looks like for next week.

Well, I got to shower ๐Ÿšฟ and get on the bike and start heading into the office. ๐Ÿข Enjoy your day and the relatively cool weather before that heat dome builds in next week. I know my mind is fully on the Potholers and kayaking. ๐Ÿ›ถ I keep looking at the kayak and thinking I really should get it on the water sooner then later. And do some fishing ๐ŸŽฃ too for a good dinner.

Things are better now can’t you see?

33 bucks later and some stupidity remounting the rear tire at home the bike is back on the road. ๐Ÿšฒ Those rear spokes are a bitch to work with – – it was nice to be able to drop the bike off at noontime and they had it fixed by 1:30 PM. I left work about 15 minutes early to pick up the bike, but honestly I could have waited to five o’clock as they don’t close until 6 PM but I wanted to get home and get back on the road.

I am just glad that I got it back today. โ˜บ When I dropped it off they didn’t promise it back until Wednesday. Always under promise over deliver. I really hate driving in to work, something I’ve thought about a lot while looking at houses. Maybe I should buy a house in the city. Or rent. Until I don’t have to work in the city any more. I realized if I couldn’t pick up the wheel at work today, I probably could have left my truck overnight at the office,. Parked out by the state pool vehicles, I doubt anyone would touch it. They probably have security cameras in the lot. Kind of an industrial neighborhood though.

Of course mounting the new tire was a comedy of errors that took me much too longer. ๐Ÿƒ First time I managed to put a flat – – probably a pinch flat – – in the tube. Those new never mounted mountain bike tires can be a bitch to mount. Fortunately I have a back up tube. So I patched the tube, put it in storage, and the good tube was mounted. But the second time through I put the tire on backwards. So I start the process off from scratch. ๐Ÿ›ž What a fucking joke I’m am at times with my fingers. Found a bent spoke on the front wheel, and I should replace that, but at least that wheel doesn’t involve pulling the cassette to replace spokes, not that the $33 fix on the rear wheel was on that side. But the shop did a good job at truing the real wheel, and that new tire finally installed rides great. The front wheel isn’t out of true, but I tighted up the spokes, including the bent one. Despite the bent spoke the wheel seems quite true. That said, I should replace it before it breaks. Unfortunately the spokes I bought for the other bike aren’t big enough for this one. I think that front spoke got damaged when I wiped out riding trail at Thacher Park. ๐Ÿšต

Just for a good test ride and to try out the new rear tire, ๐Ÿšฒ I rode down to the town park this evening and around some of the suburban streets in town. Not too far. I thought about going to bank to deposit that check ๐Ÿ’ด and to the Slingerlands Arboretum to explore it in springtime ๐ŸŒณ but it was quickly getting dark and I’m tired.

Shit breaks all of the time. ๐Ÿ’ฉ That’s the truth with life, no matter how careful you are with it and maintence. Using it, means using it up. Sometimes going to the mechanic is the best course of action, ๐Ÿ›  as they can get you often back on the road quicker then doing yourself, especially if the job requires specialized tools like replacing the rear spokes do. Great the the shop got me back on the road the same day. I was always surprised that CDTA with all their diesel mechanics, farms out all their diesel rebuilds to Cummins Turbo Diesel shop off – site and I think they use another vendor to rebuild transmissions. Same thing with farmers – – they usually will send their tractors ๐Ÿšœ off site for complicated repairs and engine rebuilds. Sometimes when others can do things quicker or better then you can, it’ makes sense to pay. I’m going to be able to ride in tomorrow, and makes me happy.
