Tompkins County

Tompkins County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York, and comprises the whole of the Ithaca metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 101,564. The county seat is Ithaca, and the county is home to Cornell University, Ithaca College and Tompkins Cortland Community College.

Tompkins County is in the west central part of New York State, south of Syracuse and northwest of Binghamton. It is usually geographically grouped with the Finger Lakes region, but some locals consider themselves to be part of Central New York or the Southern Tier.

Maybe a little FOMO isn’t a bad thing on vacation 🩴

As not doing something on vacation literally means missing out. It’s not like I’ve spent a ton of money so far, yes food, ice cream, gasoline and even a case of beer but it’s the memories and fun that matters. These days are short – it will be Sunday before you know it and I’ll have to take down camp and head home. I’m still eating good healthy meals with tons of fruits and vegetables even if I’ve broke down and are enjoying a few beers each night and good ice cream.

Good morning! Soon it will be time to swim in the Enfield Glen, going to be a hot one. 🏊‍♂️ Partly sunny and 70 degrees at the Lucifer Falls in the Robert Treman State Park. ☀ There is a south breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 62 degrees.

It’s funny I’m wearing an older pair of XXL shirts and shorts and they’re so big I look like a clown 🤡 and at this point I’m less worried about that additional ice cream 🍧 or beer 🍻. Got to enjoy vacation still I’m eating apples and peaches all day long. 🍑 Need to stop buying peaches at the grocery store as the farm stand ones are a million times better. After that campfire salmon 🐠 last night with rice, mushrooms, peppers and onions I cut open that watermelon 🍉 and more then a third is gone. Yeah, I did dump a shit ton of MSG on it, I’m addicted to Accent. Better than salt for the blood pressure and makes most food items, even healthy ones taste a million times better. ☺ Vacation is seperate enough from home I’m not tempted to hit up ice cream stands when home 🏡 and I’ll lock 🔒 the remaining beer 🍻 in my attic so don’t drink it before camping again ⛺ in a few weeks.

Plans change 🤷‍♂️ and with the hotter nicer less stormy weather today ☀ I decided to do Enfield Glen and Robert Treman State Park for the ultimate in gorge swimming 🏊. I had to go to Ithaca at any rate today to get propane at Tractor Supply. 🚜 Plus I’m thinking of getting some pork 🥩 to cook up at camp at the Piggery, then park at Cass Park, kayak 🛶 the Ithaca Canal and maybe a little of Cayuga Lake if it’s not too choppy. And maybe end the day riding a bit of the Black 🖤 Diamond 🔹 Trail outside of Ithaca. And try to get back to camp by nine 9⃣ as has been the norm this summer vacation. 🏖

And here I am sitting at Stewart Park listening to Otis Redding waiting for the sunset. Maybe I won’t get up so early tomorrow morning. I’m so tired and a bit sunburnt though the protein from the hard boiled egg and a banana gave me some go. Going to be a good sunset tonight. Don’t have to stay up that late after I return to camp.

I didn’t plan on visiting the Cornell Botanical Gardens but they’ve been great… 🌸

A bicycle is a great thing. You can park for free and ride all over. No searching for parking or paying, just need a bike rack or a sturdy location to lock the bike up to! 🚲

Now I want to see more of the campus and get a milk shake at the Cornell Dairy Bar 🐮 but that will have to wait for another day as it’s getting late and I want to explore a bit more of the gorge, 📸 then head back down to Stewart Park 🏞 on Cayuga Lake before heading back to camp ⛺. I’m tired 😴 I stayed up super late last night with a sugar high but then woke up early too. Vacation should be relaxing and not so busy, so I want to have a good dinner before retiring to bed 🛏 in my pickup.
