Thirteenth Lake

Two-mile long Thirteenth Lake is west of the North Creek and North River area and lies at the edge of the Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. Most of the shoreline is state land – there is a little development at its eastern shore. From NY Route 28 in North River, take Thirteenth Lake Road for 3.5 miles, and turn right on a dirt road to the parking area. One does have to carry or wheel their canoe or kayak 150 yards along a smooth wide trail to the water’s edge passing by primitive campsites, outhouses, and a picnic area. The put-in is to the left of the register.

Adirondack Land Trust Buys Last Unprotected Shoreline on Thirteenth Lake – The Adirondack Almanack

The Adirondack Land Trust has purchased 17 acres of land on the Thirteenth Lake’s 4.5-mile shoreline, marking the conservation of the last unprotected shoreline on Thirteenth Lake. The Lake is a headwater of Upper Hudson River and the largest body of water within the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.

New York State orest Preserve borders the land on one side, while the Garnet Hill Property Owners Association borders the other. The latter is taking advantage of restrictive use covenants to ensure its lake shore property is protected.

Hour Pond

Hour Pond is a mid-sized pond located about a mile and half away from Thirteenth Lake, on a seasonally muddy trail. It generally follows streams, but does go up and over a ridge to get to this remote lake in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness.
