May the Forth be with you on this Direct Drive of the Week β
I think my Ford Ranger years ago had the fifth gear labeled as OD for overdrive. Once you climb the hump of the week, which Ford’s don’t have things get easier I tell myself.
Good morning! Today is the 8:30 PM Dusk π . Cloudy, damp and 43 degrees in Delmar for the morning walk. β I’m not sure how much more rain we got last night but this morning is cold. There is a north breeze at 7 mph. π. The skies will clear tomorrow around noontime.
Yesterday was a tough day π΄ as while for most people 11:30 ain’t late, it is for me as I am often up closer to 5 or 5:30 each morning now especially with the earlier sunrise. Kind of a busy day with work too. Walked exactly 8 miles yesterday π£, I was sure yesterday evening would be a soaker but my fears were overblown and I did an evening walk. Salmon, kale, onions and asparagus for dinner last night. π
Today will have a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy π¦, with a high of 55 degrees at 3pm. 13 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. North wind 3 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light drizzle in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 57 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1944. There was a dusting of snow in 1986.β
Cooked up a big pot of brown rice, lentils, beans, onions and asparagus π² for the week to come. I’m thinking about getting some chicken breasts to roast π and chop up with some fresh spinach and a low keto wrap π― for kind of a Cinco de Mayo treat at camp. βΊ Plus I’m soaking some chickpeas to roast up at camp.
Solar noon π is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 63.3Β° from the due south horizon (-7.5Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π
starts at 7:19 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (286Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (293Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:59 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 8 seconds with dusk around 8:29 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Full π Moon in the southeast (124Β°) at an altitude of 14Β° from the horizon, 239,785 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:08 pm. At sunset, look for rain π§ and temperatures around 53 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 14 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.
I was excited to see the Nature Bus π returns the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend to Thacher Park π. I think it could be great fun especially with a bicycle π². I could take the bus up to the park, ride all around Berne then bike home or catch the bus home. π‘ The bicycle opens up a lot of possibilities.
Tonight will have a slight chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy π§, with a low of 42 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 29th. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2022, we had light rain in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1974.
I have to pack for camp tonight π and get a few groceries and supplies. It’s only going to be two nights but I want the necessary supplies to have a healthy, good trip. I haven’t decided if I need the propane heater though it’s nice in the morning. I still have a gallon or two of propane so that should be good for now.
The weekend continues to look like a winner. π· Saturday, sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph. Maximum dew point of 43 at 8pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Maximum dew point of 44 at 7pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 68 degrees.
My hope is to leave town around 1 pm tomorrow βΊ and get camp set up early. It’s black fly season but that’s expected this time of year. π It won’t be that long until it’s Potholers season. I’m already thinking about the Potholers and summer days with clams. π¦ͺ Doing some hiking and fishing π£ this weekend I’m thinking. I wish I had my bicycle π² read but it’s not yet on the road. Making progress I tell myself.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 9 PM Dusk π when the sun will be setting at 8:27 pm with dusk at 9:00 pm. On that day in 2022, we had rain and temperatures between 69 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 76 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1918.
