Sargent Ponds Wild Forest πŸ“

The 43,532 acre Sargent Ponds Wild Forest is located East of Raquette Lake, north of NY 28 and west of NY 30.

The area is a boreal swamp forest as much of this great spruce-balsam-white cedar tract borders the Raquette River, Marion River and Boulder Brook.

It is home to Forked Lake to the North and Buttermilk Falls, Long Lake to the West, and Owl Heads Firetower to the north.

Looking Back While Climbing

As you climb that final bit up Owls Head, there is a ridge located above the little low spot where the Ranger's cabin is located between the col and Owls Head. The Ranger's cabin was probably located in such a lower elevation due to access to a spring.
