August 20, 2017 Morning

Good morning! Happy Sunday. Four weeks to 7 PM Sunset. Partly sunny and 66 degrees in the “City” of Coudersport. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 57 degrees. It’s a great day here in God’s Country.

Yesterday I visited the Taughannock Viaduct and the French Azilum Historic site. Ended up spending a lot more time there then I expected then I hit some heavy rain. It was so bad I ended up pulling over until the rain passed. Ended up spending the night outside of Ansonia at the Asaph Run Campground. It was nice, not so crowded and I ended up hanging out with other campers.  This morning swung up to Colton Point State Park and are heading west to the Allegheny National Forest.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high of 77 degrees at 3pm. One degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. West wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 87 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1937.

The sun will set at 8:03 pm with dusk around 8:33 pm, which is one minute and 32 seconds earlier than yesterday. At sunset, look for mostly clear conditions and 68 degrees. The dew point will be 55 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 13 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 34 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 56 degrees at 6am. Three degrees below normal. Maximum dew point of 56 at 6pm. Light southwest wind. In 2016, we had mostly clear skies with more clouds in the early hours of the next day. It was sticky. It got down to 66 degrees. The record low of 42 occurred back in 1977.

In 2014, seventy-two people are killed in Japan’s Hiroshima Prefecture by a series of landslides caused by a month’s worth of rain that fell in one day.

Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until 7 PM Sunset when the sun will be setting at 7:16 pm with dusk at 7:44 pm. On that day in 2016, we had rain, mostly cloudy skies and temperatures between 78 and 55 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 72 degrees. We hit a record high of 89 back in 1942.
