Oswego

Oswego /Ι’sˈwiːɑoʊ/ is a city in Oswego County, New York, United States. The population was 18,142 at the 2010 census. Oswego is located on Lake Ontario in north-central New York and promotes itself as “The Port City of Central New York”. It is the county seat of Oswego County. The city of Oswego is bordered by the towns of Oswego, Minetto, and Scriba to the west, south, and east, respectively, and by Lake Ontario to the north.

Mexico

Location: Mexico is in the northeastern section of Oswego County, New York. The Little Salmon River runs through the area, linking it to Lake Ontario.

Population: As of the 2020 census, the town of Mexico had a population of 5,257.

History: Mexico is known as the "Mother of Towns" because the original town, established by acts in the late 1700s, was an expansive area from which over 80 other towns were eventually formed across several counties. The origin of its unique name is a mystery, with the best guess being that an early land surveyor had an affinity for the nation of Mexico. The area played a role in the abolition of slavery and was a stop on the Underground Railroad, notably the Starr Clark Tin Shop.

Sithe Independence Station

Sithe Independence Station is the state's largest natural gas plant for total output. Built in rural Oswego County, between the James Fitzpatrick - Nine Mile Point, it output 4,780,069 megawatts in 2019, sixth highest in state (only the large hydro-electric dams on the Niagara River, St. Lawrence River, Indian Point and those two nuclear plants up the road exceeded it's output).
