While the greater Oneonta has some agriculture in valleys and people do dairy and raise beef cattle in this area, most of the hill tops are forested with deciduous trees. South of Goodyear Lake and South of Oneonta has some good crop soils, they raise corn mostly for silage there, but the high hills are mostly wooded.
I wondered if part of Interstate 88 was the old carriageway for NY 28 but looking at this 1943 topographic map it's not. Instead they extended NY 28 down to Interstate to make it easier to access Cooperstown.
There were a lot of people in Cooperstown today so I only spent a brief time here with my mask on before leaving town.
