This map shows the population density of every census tract in New York. Due to limit color choices, you can see that most of the state is very blue and unpopulated compared to some census tracts in New York City. For example, Census Tract 9702, Delaware County, New York (Meridith) has 24 residents per sq mile while Census Tract 138, New York County, New York (Upper East Side) has 187,211 residents per sq mile.

The secret to a long life in New York State is to move downstate. You can add 7.7 years to your life -- nearly a 10% extension to your life -- by moving from Chemung County to Manhattan, assuming that statistics work like that, which they don't. Upstaters tend to be overweight, smoke a lot of cigarettes, inject a lot heroin and pain pills, and have long commutes in automobiles that often lead to fatal car crashes.
