May 14, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Six weeks to Primary Day πŸ—³οΈ. With the state’s paid time off to vote law, I’ll have an excuse to get to a work late after voting at the library. Here’s a shocker, cloudy, damp and 42 degrees ☁ in the land of socialist Elsmere. The organic kale socialism type, the kind widely used embraced as long as it doesn’t involve higher taxes on the upper middle class. There is a north-northeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 7 am.

I have to fix up the Save the Pine Bush display 🌲for the Lupine Festival this weekend. Yeap that’s happening this weekend and it should be a good event. Hopefully we will have lots of volunteers to join me so I won’t be sitting at the table all alone all day. I’m gathering up photos now, I’ll run off materials for the booth later on this week.

Today will rain, mainly after 3pm. 🌧 High of 49 degrees at 5pm. 20 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. Northeast wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Almost didn’t bring an umbrella but I knew that to be foolish. πŸ’¦ New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 93 was set in 1900.

The sun will set at 8:10 pm with dusk around 8:42 pm, which is one minute and 3 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for rain showers 🌧 and temperatures around 47 degrees. There will be a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 36 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have showers likely, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 42 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 30th. Northwest wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 56 degrees. The record low of 31 occurred back in 1977.

Looking forward to Memorial Day Weekend 😎 especially if it looks like it will be warm and sunny. We might break out of the current pattern by then but who knows. A some point summer will be here. I was thinking that the Gas Up antique tractor festival 🚜 in Gallupville is only about a month away at this point. Might be fun to do that and then hammock camp β›Ί in the wilderness.

One month πŸ“… from now will be Flag Day πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. I’ll have to get my big flag out. Hopefully the sun will shine by then.

Swamp and House

May 12, 2019 Morning

Good morning! Happy Mothers Day πŸ‘©β€! Time for some motherly love and Frank Zappa records. 😍 Five weeks to Fathers Day πŸ‘¨. Cloudy, damp and 47 degrees ☁ There is a east breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear Wednesday around 11 am. Maybe. That said the 8-14 day outlook suggests warm and dry weather for Memorial Day Weekend but things are subject to change.

Its kind a damp morning as was predicted but the rain seems done. πŸ’¦ Laying back in the hammock, had some eggs 🍳, warmed up my hands by the heater. I did turn on the truck for a while because the starting battery πŸ”‹was around 12.51 volts. Probably not required but I’d rather be safe than sorry.

In a bit I’m going to finish taking down camp and head fishing. 🎣 Later on I will probably go for a walk down to Rockwood Lake then head home. I think the rain is done for the day here. β˜”

Today will have a chance of light rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 49 degrees at 2pm. 19 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 27th. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, remaining cloudy in the afternoon. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.❄

The sun will set at 8:12 pm with dusk around 8:45 pm, which is one minute and 6 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ At sunset, look for clouds ☁ and temperatures around 44 degrees. There will be a east breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 14 hours and 35 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of rain. Cloudy 🌧, with a low of 40 degrees at 1am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. East wind around 6 mph. Looking ahead, there are 5 weeks until Fathers Day πŸ‘¨ when the sun will be setting at 8:40 pm with dusk at 9:16 pm. On that day in 2018, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 84 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1967. I could see a warm June after this rather cold and wet spring.

May 11, 2019 Night

Good evening! Partly cloudy and 50 degrees with the moon overhead camping here at Stewart Landing. 🌜 There is a north breeze at 6 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear Wednesday around 9 am.

Laying back in the hammock, listening to music, relaxing. 🎢 A very nice evening for sure. I have all warm white lights hung up for a change, I bought one of the strings at an after Christmas sale. They are in some ways nicer than the colored strings. The hammock is nice, first time using it camping since Labor Day although it still fairly cold so I’ll sleep in the truck.

The truth be told I’m not a big fan of the campsites up at Stewart Landing as they are too closely spaced in my book for a true wilderness experience and they are muddy with too much litter but it was a nice day hiking back to Hilderbrant Vly and Glasgow Pond, finally spelled correctly. 🚢 Ten mile round trip and the trail is lightly used, not too eroded although lots of flooding and mud holes due to the old roads being lower than the surrounding lands. I doubt I’ll ever come up here again but change is good as are new adventures. I have to say this was first adventure I’ve done in a long time I’ve truly enjoyed. I like being in the wilderness and doing something new and different for a change.

I’ve fallen into the trap of doing the same thing week after week but sometimes changing things up can make time go by slower,⏳and make things more memorable and enjoyable. I mean that I like the potholers but I feel like I go up to Piseco-Powley Road and Moose River Plains so much it’s getting boring. I haven’t made any decisions yet but I really should do something different for my summer vacation and not do the same thing in the Finger Lakes National Forest yet again.

Once black fly season is done, 🐜 I’m going to do more wilderness lightweight hammock camping. β›Ί I would probably truck cap camp the first night driving up from Albany and on Saturday hike back in the wilderness with minimal gear – flashlight, hammock, can of something for dinner or frozen hot dogs, pan for cooking, phone for music, and a battery pack for backup.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy πŸŒ₯, with a low of 41 degrees at 4am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 27th. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2018, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became light rain by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 48 degrees. The record low of 29 occurred back in 1969. I don’t think we have to worry about ice tonight.

Tonight will have a Waxing Gibbous Moon πŸŒ” with 62% illuminated. The moon will set at 2:27 am. The Full Moon whose name I forget πŸŒ• is on Friday night with a chance of showers. The sun will rise at 5:39 am with the first light at 5:06 am, which is one minute and 9 seconds earlier than yesterday. πŸŒ„ I wake up so early with the early sunrise. Tonight will have 9 hours and 26 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 13 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will have a chance of rain, mainly after 3pm. Cloudy 🌧, with a high of 53 degrees at 4pm. 15 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 4th. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 50 degrees. The record high of 91 was set in 1881. There was a dusting of snow in 1996.❄

In four weeks on June 8 the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm,πŸŒ„ which is 25 minutes and 10 seconds later then tonight. Remarkable to think June is only a month away. That weekend I might be up at Piseco-Powley Road and might do the potholers and maybe visit Little Falls. In 2018 on that day, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 80 and 58 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 76 and 54 degrees. The record high of 93 degrees was set back in 2011.

Looking ahead, okay I remember the Flower Moon πŸŒ• is in 1 week, June 🍹 is in 3 weeks, Average High is 80 πŸ– is in 6 weeks, Hottest Time of the Year πŸ˜… is in 9 weeks, Ugly Truck Day 🚚 is in 10 weeks, Average High Falls To 79 ️Degrees ⛱️️️ is in 15 weeks, September 11th πŸ‡Έ is in 4 months and Average High 70 πŸŽ‘ is in 19 weeks.
