Delmar, New York

Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.

A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.

In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

Climate change and washboard roads

A benefit of Climate Change: Fewer washboard roads. *

* More severely eroded roads and potholes but less washboard roads…. Washboard roads occur due to the road surface being too dry. Dry roads, especially on dirt only surface develop a series of ridges like an old fashioned washboard which is quite dangerous… It’s like driving on ice as you loose traction if you hit it too fast. Not to mention it’s very taxing on shock absorbers and other components.

Not happy with the mask mandate at the Bethlehem Library 😷

Wear your muzzle, the people say. But it’s so uncomfortable, especially in the hot weather of recent. I’ve been fully-vaccinated for months now, and the likely harm of COVID-19 to myself is probably no worse then a severe cold if even that. I get why they have the mask mandate — COVID-19 levels have risen quite a bit locally, but it also seems silly to require masks for fully vaccinated individuals.

The one buck I saw is growing nice little spikes, might have a good set of antlers come another month assuming he’s still around come the rut. 🦌

Saw several bats, that’s always good, they are bug vacuums. People keep telling me that white nose is killing them all off but they seem to be doing well at the town park. πŸ¦‡

Cotton tail rabbits as always. 🐰

Heard several cat birds and crickets. 🐦

Crickets are loud and tonight, kind of a hot and humid night. πŸ¦—
