Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

Yesterday I walked seventeen miles 🚶, doing roughly 34,000 steps. 👣 Not too bad. It was a nice day and wanted to spend as much time outdoors as possible without driving anywhere. Hiked down to the Normans Kill Falls and South Pearl on the rail trail then Five Rivers via Van Dyke – Meads Lane and the Fisher Trail to Fisher Boulevard. I don’t mind not walking on the narrow shoulders of NY 443. Then did an evening walk on the super block around the High School. 🚸
This morning 🌅 did my morning walk 🚶 and now spending some time at the town park 🏞. Going to hike Bennett Hill later I think than go out to my parents house for Sunday dinner 🍲 and then head home. Heavy rain ☔ expected later so I want to be home before dark.

Yesterday afternoon it rained and rained some more. 🌧 It was from the hurricane. Kept me from heading out of town this weekend. But that’s fine, I needed a quiet day on Saturday.
Went down to the park for a while yesterday, 🚶♀️ but didn’t want to get too far from home and get poured on. As when the rain came, it came. I ended up taking a nap last night and watching some Youtube videos on my phone. I’ve just been recovering from the week that was.
But look come Wednesday it will be 70 degrees. Yet it won’t last for long, with temperatures cool and more October like with rain on Thursday. Weekend looks nice, I don’t really have a plan but maybe I can do something fun.

It was a nice holiday weekend, ⛵ spent camping up at Rensselaerville State Forest. I actually left on Friday morning for the Adirondacks but I swear there is still something wrong on my truck, as after a while on the road it gets all whallowy. Maybe it’s just the shock absorbers are bad — the ride has grown increasingly harsh — but I’m not getting any kind of rattle and my local shop took a good look at it. 👩🔧 My mechanic didn’t seem concerned but I am. I am chewing over taking it to the shop that put the lift kit on but I don’t want to spend money on it unless it’s absolutely necessary.
I think it actually was good I decided to Rensselaerville. 🍂 The leaves were close to perfect. But more then that it was super quiet up there. A two people who read my blog just randomly stopped by. 💬 Always fun to meet up with people in the woods. 🌲 But most of the weekend was quiet and colorful. Hiked about 20 miles around the various back roads and truck trails throughout the forest.
What a really dark and gray morning today. The heaviest rain has stopped for now, but I’m sure that we might get more rain later on.
Cloudy, humid and damp this morning around 70 degrees. ☁️ It was raining pretty hard earlier this morning but now is just cloudy, taking the local in both due to the rain and because I’m feeling sore from the Lyme disease.
Between the rain and busy with work, 👣 it’s been tough to get the steps in the past few days. Plus today I’m just achy and sore. I did walk down to the library as I had work to do, and 👨💻 some work until dark. 🌧 Sat outside at the picnic table with the umbrella which keep the rain showers off me. All and all a pretty nice night. Saw a opossum and rabbit run across the sidewalk. Much better then the skunks I normally see. 💀 You see a lot after dark just sitting outside working.
The weekend forecast looks fairly decent, 😀 I am thinking about heading out of town — maybe not too far like Schoharie or another State Forest. Maybe just hammock camp. 🏕 The bugs aren’t likely too bad this time of year. I don’t think the colors are changing that much up north yet. Weekend looks cool, especially Saturday but really clear. 😎 One idea would be to hike the Catskill Scenic Trail again or another is to hike part of Western Catskills like another part of Bearpen Mountain. 🐻 I would want to get out real early though to avoid the crowds.
One of the GIS projects I’ve been thinking about lately, ☁️ is how to remove clouds from aerial imagery such as captured from LANDSTAT or MODIS Terra/Aqua. The idea I have is you could take an multiple day captures, like over a week or two, overlay them and then make the areas that clouds and shadows fully transparent. I know there is a filter you can do this with SAGA and GRASS but I wonder if I can do this in R/terra with some raster math. It would be neat to have cloud-free images to see the changing the seasons.
