Delmar, New York

Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.

A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.

In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

Route choices….

Spent too much time this morning trying to figure out the best route to North Lake Reservoir, being that I don’t like driving the expressways. I was thinking NY 29 from Johnstown to NY 28 and Remsen would be scenic but I am leaning towards a more southerly route, so I can stop by the Bass Pro Shop in Utica on the way up rather than back. I guess that leaves NY 5 or NY 5S mixed with the Thruway.

So many choices….

May 21, 2015 evening

55 degrees and cloudy this evening. A pungent smell of lillac and to a lesser extent manure fill the air. 46 degrees later.

65 degrees tomorrow in the city with clearing and mid 20s tomorrow night in the Adirondacks. Saturday and Sunday should reach the low 70s.

I’ve packed what I can tonight for a nice long weekend at North Lake Reservoir. It should be a nice quiet weekend. I hope to leave before 8 AM and be making camp before noontime in a nice campsite. Plan to do a lot of reading and relaxing, I have the solar panel packed so I won’t have to run the truck much.

Hoping for a good weekend. Enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend….

May 21, 2015 morning

Good morning. Currently 42 degrees and cloudy. 69 and clouds remain later. First half of the weekend will be chilly with gradual warming as the weekend progresses.

May 20, 2015 evening

As we work our way to the 11 o’clock hour, it’s 49 degrees with a chilly breeze. It won’t get below freezing in the city but outlying areas have freeze advisories.

Tomorrow will be 64 degrees with possibly more sun then today. The good news is some places around got some rain showers.

It will be a chilly but clear Memorial Day Weekend except for late Memorial Day. They are expecting a hard freeze in the Adirondacks on Friday night with a very cold windchill. But at least it will be a sunny weekend.
