Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
Good morning on this sunny Tuesday morning. Currently 32 degrees and quite sunny. The sun makes it feel a lot warmer than freezing. Later it will be sunny, with a high near 50. Light and variable wind. The sun will set at 4:31 PM and tonight will have 14 hours and 16 minutes of darkness. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 26. Light southeast wind.
Today the CDTA Bus Time is not working so I couldn’t check for real-time updates on the bus service which was kind of disappointing but it really doesn’t matter as the bus running on time.
This morning I caught two mice in the traps I set out. I reset them and I’ll see how many more I catch. I think I will then get some spackle and patch up the hole in the wall. I don’t care that much about it in the grand scheme of things.
I am glad that the winter has held off so long. I like snow but hate or more like despise road salt. Once I do my North Country trip I think I will be more pro-snow but if it holds off, it’s more opportunity for roadside camping. That said I’m all for snow once it comes, and I look forward to doing more winter camping this year. It should be a nice winter or so I tell myself.
Good evening. I hope your Monday went well. It’s down to 40 degrees now and will drop to 26 or so by daybreak. Sunrise tomorrow is at 6:48 AM and sunset at 4:32 PM for a total of 9 hours and 43 minutes of daylight.
The days may be short this time of year but tomorrow’s weather will be nice but you’ll still need a jacket. Sunny, with a high near 49. Calm wind. Not too bad for the second half of the month of November. Rain likely for Wednesday.
Did my evening walk early then walked down to the library. Still trying to get my Bluetooth speakers to work with my laptop. The Bluetooth support in Ubuntu Linux 14.04 LTS is buggy. Thinking of upgrading to 15.10, but that will be a pain as you have to install 14.10 and 15.04 before you can do the upgrade. I get tired of the constant updates, so that’s why I’ve been sticking with the Long Term Support version but it really is getting long in the tooth.
The I drove to Walmart to get groceries and supplies. I prefer to shop at Shoprite as it’s a union business, but Walmart has a lot of supplies that you’re typical supermarket doesn’t have. Grocery stores don’t have electronics, auto, hunting and fishing, much less clothes. One stop shopping makes Walmart great. I needed a lot of random things.
I finally got peanut butter and a mouse trap, so maybe now I can get rid of the mouse or most likely mice that chewed a hole on the kitchen wall and have been driving me nuts since it got cold out. Mice are always a autumn problem in my apartment because the slab foundation in the kitchen doesn’t reach the kitchen wall which has oxbowed out over the years from the weight of the added on second floor. It super easy for mice to tunnel in. Once the ground freezes and I trap them, they’ll be gone by December or sooner. Already caught one. Maybe I should have been more proactive but so be it. I hate messing with the traps. I need a cat.
I always like looking back at Big Red in the parking lot, especially when it’s out in the open and mostly small cars are around. It’s such a big truck and pretty awesome compared to stock trucks and little cars. I like looking down at cops at the traffic light when I’m in a different lane. Maybe not the highest lifted truck or the most beautiful one, but it’s mine, it’s paid off, and for the most part works pretty darn well. Has a lot of nice toys on it but I work hard for my money.
Weatherstill looking good for my North Country trip. I will check the forecast tomorrow and then will put in to take Friday and Monday off. I’m really excited to get back up to Plattsburgh then Massena. It’s been years since I’ve been up that way. Been thinking about this trip a long time. Looking forward to seeing the college and the lake then heading west.
Good evening. As we enter the eight oβclock hour this evening, itβs around 40 degrees. Kind of cold and windy all day today. The clouds never broke as expected, although around 3:30 we saw some breaks of sun. I went down to the library for a bit and uploaded several maps, most of the political type.Β I already went out for my evening walk but I might go out again for a second evening walk a little later, as I hate being cooped up, and because with enough layers the cold is manageable. I think the wind is dying down and temperatures rising a few degrees, which is helping.
Tonightβs sunset was around 4:33 PM, although it wasnβt much of a sunset with the clouds predominating. Right now itβs not very good for the stars, but it is expected to clear late. Tomorrow the sun will rise at 6:46 AM and it will be sunny and warm quickly. The latest forecast is calling for it to be around 57 degrees tomorrow with a light breeze. I might get out for a sunrise hike tomorrow. I really feel like climbing a mountain for some reason. If I do get up for sunrise, I will have to plan a full day, because I donβt want to get done at 10 AM and have nothing to do for the rest of the day.
I think I made the right callΒ not going up to the woods this weekend. Tomorrow might be pretty nice, but last night and all day today would have been pretty cold in the woods. For a weekend trip, I wasnβt really thrilled about setting up a tent with the Big Buddy heater, so I would have a βwarmβ place with to hide out from the cold. At home, there is a little more to stretch your arms, and itβs a bit better insulated. Not to mention, it doesnβt smell like wood smoke at home unlike when your sitting over a fire, trying to stay warm.
Still waiting for Tuesday to come around, for pay day. Iβm just so darn broke for now, as always seems to happen in November in odd years. After all those summer trips, expenses just seem to add up and it takes time for my bank account to recover. Between putting money into savings and retirement from every paycheck, and the basic expenses like rent, food, and supplies, there really isnβt a lot left at the end of the month. Every two weeks Iβve been taking out enough from each paycheck to maximize my Roth IRA plus put a way a good chunk of money into savings, and seems by the time camping and traveling season comes to an end, things are tight on the money front.
Finally turned on the heat in my apartment. The cold season is upon us.Β I make enough money that I turn up the heater donβt shiver when Iβm home, but there is something about gas radiator heat and the even the upstairs baseboard electric heat that isnβt quite the same as having a woodstove. A fire is so nice and warm. Maybe I need to find a place with a wood stove like my neighbor has. Or maybe I just need to get out of the suburbs. I donβt know. Or get back into the woods, and camp in the lean-to.
As we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we are up to 53 degrees. A few more clouds are starting to creep in but overwhelmingly it seems like a pleasant and warm morning with a bright sun offsetting the wind. It’s not expected to last though.
Tomorrow looks rather frigid, cloudy and cold. I will probably end up staying in town because it’s not going to be pleasant in the woods. If more sun was expected it would be a nicer day for sure. My Carhartt jacket is pretty worn out, I need to think about getting a new one this weekend. I’m pretty broke so probably staying in town until payday is a good thing.
Sunday looks to be the better day of the weekend but I have yet to make a plan for it. My general criteria is whatever I do, it has to be cheap and not use much gas. I have a half tank of gas but I would like that to last until at least next week.
Good morning on this final Friday the 13th of 2015. Going to be a blustery one today. Currently 52 degrees and partly sunny at the 7 o’clock hour. The breeze is blowing at 13 mph with occasional gusts over 30.
Scattered showers, mainly after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 54. West wind 9 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. More showers to the north in the Adirondacks.
Saturday will be frigid, even by November standards. Partly sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Have a great Friday. Be safe and make the most of this blustery day. Friday is the gateway to the weekend.
Good evening. After the heavy rain that came through it cleared out and now is around 49 degrees. It will drop another 4 degrees and then after sunrise around 6:43 AM, it will rise to 52 degrees. Cloudy with times of sun tomorrow, but very blustery with winds around 20 mph at times.
Again, tonight on the evening walk, saw a shooting star. Not as bright as some shooting stars I’ve seen recent days. Still fortunate too see so many.
