The Elm Avenue Park and Ride offers a convenient way to get downtown without the hassles of urban traffic. Located next to the Elm Avenue Park at the end of the Delmar Bypass (NY 32), it is serviced by several buses that will quickly transport you downtown.
There is a new, expanded schedule for the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. 5 morning buses depart there, 5 buses in the afternoon plus a mid-day bus schedule. Very convenient. http://www.cdta.org/uploads/Route719.pdf
Good morning! What day is it? Hump Day, of course. Going to be hot later or so I’m told by Mr. NOAA and his brave men and women based on their fancy computer models. 🔥 Three weeks to my Teeth Cleaning Day 😄Clean teeth are important. Now, I just need to schedule a physical 😷 and get my tetanus booster. 💉 Partly sunny and 69 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. ☀ Calm wind. The dew point is 57 degrees. Nice morning, enjoyed my walk down to the bus.🚏
Today will be mostly sunny and hot ☀, with a high of 91 degrees at 5pm. But maybe not too ungodly humid? Muggers won’t be that active today. They’re lurking in their dark corners for tomorrow. Nine degrees above normal. It’s called summer time, the hottest time of the year starts Friday, the first sunset before 8:30 is on Tuesday. Maximum dew point of 60 at 11am. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became mostly sunny by afternoon. It became sticky as the day progressed. The high last year was 92 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.
The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:08 pm, which is 28 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 84 degrees. The dew point will be 62 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 6 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 12 seconds over yesterday.
This evening, I have another Save the Pine Bush event 🦋 to go to, namely the Guilderland Town Planning meeting over that Rapp Road development. Should be an interesting meeting, and hopefully the building will be well air conditioned. I might go for a hike after the meeting, although more likely then not, I’ll end up going to another meeting with the Pine Bush folks probably at a dinner. ☕
Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 69 degrees at 5am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 65 at 11pm. Light south wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was somewhat humid. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.
I saw another one of my fellow high schoolers bought a house. 🏡 In Upstate New York of all places. Seems like I’m getting to the age where everyone’s buying property, while I’m just buying stocks and bonds. Based on the numbers I’ve seen, renting my run down apartment, walking around town and taking the bus 🚍 to work and investing I still come out ahead. If I owned land, I’d probably get in trouble for burning shit I shouldn’t be be. 🔥
Idon’t live in Pennsylvania, where people burn everything from couches 🛋️ and old buildings on-down.🏚 Eventually when I am a little more financially secure, don’t have family anymore nearby, and I will move to a more rural state that has a lot more freedom. ✊ Maybe Wyoming? 🤠 That’s a segue, although I don’t know what I would do out there, but I’ve heard good things about moving out west in places like Idaho or Missouri.
On this day in 1890, Wyoming is admitted to the United States as the 44th US State. 🌋Many liberals regard that as a mistake, although it has some beautiful country out in Yellowstone and lots of oil and coal. 🏭 And no nearby neighbors, which is fun if you want to have big bonfires all of the time, drink beer, ride four wheelers, have hogs, cattle, and other animals 🥩like on Our Wyoming Life.🤠 And in 1962, Telstar, the world’s first communication satellite is launched.⭐ And they wrote a song about it, 🚀 until it was destroyed by the nuclear tests that not only nuked our satellite but put cesium-138 into our milk and ice cream.🐮
Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. 🏊 Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 64 at 7pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Little less muggy then the second half of the week. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. I think my plans for the weekend remain constant. It’s going to be hot 🔥 but no so bad out in the country in Schoharie County. I wonder if they will have sweet corn 🌽 out there. Swimming, fishing, maybe hiking. I’m sure it will be cool down by the Betty Brook. Then next weekend is the real vacation.🏖 I hope that my state parks pass is activated — it should be — but I haven’t tested it yet.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Teeth Cleaning Day 😃 when the sun will be setting at 8:16 pm with dusk at 8:48 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 86 and 67 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 98 back in 1917.
Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Next Monday is Cow Appreciation Day 🐂. Cattle are work horses of agriculture. There something like one million families nationwide who raise cattle for either milk or meat, everything from a cow to feed their family to operations with hundreds of cows. Cows are one of the few animals that can take grass from marginal lands and turn it into energy dense and healthy food for humans. I always enjoy listening to Cody Creelman’s Cow Vet podcast to get some insight into the industry.
This morning is one of the nice ones of summer. 😎 Why did I decide not to take it off? I did think about that last week. Well in two weeks I’ll be on vacation. Partly sunny and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY.🌞 Calm wind. The dew point is 52 degrees.
It was nice to be totally off the grid this weekend 📴deep in the wilderness where I could not get any radio or cellphone service, so I had no idea what happening during my absence. Even if there was nuclear war I wouldn’t have heard. The bugs were bad but I drank a lot of beer 🍻 and got some quality time in the hammock with a good book and spent a lot of time in the Moose River. 😴 Do scroll down.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 86 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. North wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 86 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1936.
The sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 77 degrees. The dew point will be 57 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 8 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 7 seconds over yesterday.
Today I’m going to order the replacement burner for my camp stove. 🔥 I’ve determined the piece that is rusted away and needs to be replaced. Thirty bucks with shipping but I think I’ll buy two as the other burner isn’t in great shape either. I still need to get some non crodding degreaser to clean the stove – I’m leaning towards something they use to wash parts at auto shops and farms.
Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 57 degrees at 5am. Four degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 18th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 8pm. Calm wind. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 61 degrees. The record low of 41 occurred back in 1963.
Tonight I have to continue putting away my camping gear ⛺ although I may need some of it if I decide to an overnight to Schoharie County this weekend. Summer is running low and it’s going to be a hot weekend but I lack the ambition to head back to the Adirondacks and battle traffic or drive through Duanesburg and Rural Grove to get up north, shunning the cities and interstates.
Going to be a nice, hot summer weekend. 🏊 Really Potholers weather but I’m not in the mood to visit the Adirondacks. Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Maximum dew point of 64 at 6pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 87. Maximum dew point of 65 at 5pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees.
As I was noting, I’m thinking a quiet weekend in Schoharie County doing some swimming, 🏊 fishing 🎣 and hiking 🚶. Vromans Nose 👃 and Mine Kill Park are always fun as are the farm stands. 🚜
As previously noted, next Monday is Cow Appreciation Day 🐂 when the sun will be setting at 8:31 pm with dusk at 9:04 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, partly sunny, rain showers and temperatures between 93 and 72 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 83 degrees. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1997.
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Next Friday is Dog Days of Summer 🌻. Mostly sunny and 68 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 61 degrees. Not a half bad morning and I was able to make it to the express bus 🚍 on time despite having to run to Stewart’s to get milk this morning. 🐮 Got have the cow juice to have good coffee and a good morning. Not a big thing getting milk, but it adds 10 minutes to my morning, and I’m always running tight because I’m not a real morning point.
Last night was the Save the Pine Bush Hike 🌲 and it was a beautiful evening, with mostly clear skies, mild but not too humid. We hiked the large yellow trail in the Karner Barrens past the landfill and Thruway, the wetlands and restored area, spending about a half hour after dusk ✨ looking up at the stars from overlook dune. It was a three mile hike but we managed to stretch it out for almost three hours, I wasn’t back to my truck until nearly quarter to ten. But it was a beautiful summer night.
Going to be a another warm summer day. It will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 87 degrees at 5pm. Six degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 61 at 8am. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 81 degrees. The record high of 99 was set in 1901.
The sun will set at 8:37 pm with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is 2 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for partly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 80 degrees. The dew point will be 60 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours and 16 minutes of daytime, an increase of 29 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3am. Increasing clouds 🌧, with a low of 67 degrees at 4am. Seven degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 63 at 6am. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It was humid. It got down to 62 degrees. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1981.
On this day in 1896, An explosion in the Newton Coal Company’s Twin Shaft Mine 🚂 in Pittston, Pennsylvania results in a massive cave-in that kills 58 miners. 💣 Also in 1969, Stonewall riots begin in New York City, marking the start of the Gay Rights Movement. Lots of explosive things happening on this day in history.🏳️🌈
Tomorrow will have showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 8am and 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 82 degrees at 5pm. One degree above normal, which is similar to a typical day around July 2nd. Maximum dew point of 67 at 11am. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning with a few breaks of sun the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 89 degrees. The record high of 96 was set in 1944.
Based on Saturday’s forecast, I am inclined to stay in town this weekend, 🏠 and maybe work on repairing the table on Saturday and testing out the camp stove a bit more. I might also want to shop and start packing for the long Independence Day Weekend — probably heading up to Moose Plains but I could change my mind. I could still go out to Schoharie on Saturday for an overnight if it turns out to be exceptionally nice, but I have my doubts.
I am almost thinking about heading up to Piseco-Powley Road for the long weekend, but the thing is it would be four nights, so I’ll have to move to a different campsite for the second half of the week unless I get a camping permit — which might be to late to do at this point. With Moose, I’d drive up to Mason Lake on Wednesday night then camp in plains Thursday, Friday, Saturday. 🏕 The potholers might be a lot of fun if it’s hot and sunny — there are swimming opportunities at Moose Plains but I’d rather do the potholers then swim in the somewhat marginal Moose River. That said, I can go up to Piseco-Powley Road almost any hot summer weekend, so why spend my Independence Day Weekend somewhere boring?
Looking ahead to Sunday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8am. Partly sunny, 🌤 with a high near 74. West wind 8 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 63 at 10am. Typical average high for the weekend is 81 degrees.
As previously noted, next Friday is Dog Days of Summer 🌻 when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny, thunderstorm and temperatures between 92 and 75 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1919.
Good morning! Happy Thursday. Next Thursday is Independence Day 🇺🇸. Mostly sunny and 69 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. The dew point is 63 degrees.
Finally got a chance to walk down to the Park and Ride. 🚍 Been a long time since I’ve taken the express to work. It’s a nicer commute, certainly more scenic and the walk down there is healthy. Air conditioning is nice on the bus as it’s already getting humid.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 85 degrees at 4pm. Four degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 64 at 9am. Calm wind becoming northwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. Nice beach weather. Too bad I have to work. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, with light rain by afternoon. It became somewhat humid as the day progressed. The high last year was 73 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1941.
Tonight is the Save the Pine Bush Evening Hike 🦋 that I’ll be leading, tonight at 7 PM at the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center. Wear long pants, despite the heat, due to the ticks but also bring water, as it might be warm, but hopefully it will cool off by the start of the hike — and the dew point should be dropping by then.
The sun will set at 8:37 pm with dusk around 9:12 pm, which is the same as yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 78 degrees. The dew point will be 58 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 5 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 17 minutes of daytime, an increase of 24 seconds over yesterday.

West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had light rain. It became sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 65 degrees. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1970.
On this day in 1985, U.S. Route 66 is officially removed from the United States Highway System. You could no longer get you’re kicks on Route 66 because everybody was taking I-40 and I-44 through the heartland of America. 🚙 The truth is shortly thereafter a lot of hick towns along the way discovered that was a mistake with the tourist wanting to travel along the back road, buying up the junk that was found in old barns mainly because the owners 🍸 couldn’t toss it in the burn pile because it was metal or glass or they had some kind of sentimal view of it. 🔥
As previously noted, next Thursday is Independence Day 🇺🇸 when the sun will be setting at 8:36 pm with dusk at 9:10 pm. On that day in 2018, we had hot, humid, mostly sunny and temperatures between 96 and 71 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 82 degrees. We hit a record high of 104 back in 1911.
I am going to take off the forth week of July today 🏖 for summer vacation. I am probably going to do the Finger Lakes again and spend my days at pool and the gorge swimming areas. I could change my mind, and do the Adirondacks but that’s what I’m leaning towards. The second half of the week I am thinking about a trip across the Southern Tier, possibly visiting Letchworth State Park 🏞 and Allegany State Park (Quaker Lake) before heading down to the Allegheny National Forest and maybe visiting Nebraska Bridge, especially if this time it’s not under water.
This morning I was reviewing my pension statement 📄 and I have 11.25 years of credits in as of March 31st. I should have enough hours to be up to 12 years by the end of the year as I expect to be doing state work for the rest of the year. So by 2030 I’ll have 20 years in. That’s only a decade away, which when you think about it isn’t that long away. I’ll probably still have family 👪 locally for that time, so I’ll doubt I’ll move away before then. But after that, who knows, I still want to chase my dream of having an off-grid home out in the wilderness in a freerer state then New York.
Good afternoon! Sunny and 77 degrees at the Bennett Hill Preserve. 🌞 There is a north breeze at 7 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 45 degrees.
Earlier today I participated in the National Trails Day event at Holt Preserve. 😊Now I’m hiking Bennett Hill on this beautiful but maybe a bit cool day for swimming day in June. 🏊 After working on the trails I went straight home and washed off with lots of soap 🚿 in hopes of avoiding getting poison ivy.
Tonight will be clear 🌃, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 46 at 6am. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. In 2018, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 52 degrees. The record low of 37 occurred back in 1977.

Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the morning. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 80 degrees. The record high of 100 was set in 1933.
On this day in 1968, Robert F. Kennedy’s funeral takes place at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. 😔 Certainly a very different time back then.
I got the replacement hammock in the mail. It didnt come with straps so I’m using the straps from the other hammock. Seems fairly similar in construction but a third of the price. I’ll see how it works out. 😴
Fixed the display errors I sometimes get at home by resetting the microprocessor every full loop of the messages. ➿Seems to do the trick, simple enough, just one line of code. It could be a loose connection but I think it might also just be random glitches in the code.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 🏖 when the sun will be setting at 8:37 pm with dusk at 9:12 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny and temperatures between 81 and 50 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 95 back in 1954.
Good morning! Where did May go? Hello June in two weeks. Been such a cold spring, it seems hard to believe June is tomorrow. But I like June. Sure it’s a busy time at work but I like drinking milk during dairy month. Two weeks to FlagDay 🇺🇸. If it’s nice, I’ll have my big flag hanging out, assuming I stick in town next weekend — which who knows depending on the weather. Partly sunny and 64 degrees at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. There is a north-northwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The dew point is 54 degrees. It was more humid yesterday for sure.
Taking the express downtown, 🚍 following an incredibly dirty diesel truck 🚚 that is blowing out tons of black smoke. Yuck. I’m old enough to remember how filthy the old school buses and even heavy oil boilers were in the school buildings. 🚸 Sure, you’ll sometimes see an old farm truck smoking 🚬 like a chimney but not so much in the cities anymore. Air pollution has gotten a lot better in the cities for sure.
Today will be sunny 🌞, with a high of 76 degrees at 3pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 7th. Maximum dew point of 54 at 8am. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Should be a good day. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was humid. Not today. The high last year was 79 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 2013.
Hoping to get out for a nice walk at lunch time. 🚶 It should be a nice day. In the evening, I am going over to John Wolcott’s house, although I’m thinking I may have to run home first to bring my laptop home, as I want to have it to work on various projects over the weekend, especially if Sunday looks rainy. It’s hard to program a microprocessor without the laptop.💻
The sun will set at 8:25 pm with dusk around 8:59 pm, which is 48 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 69 degrees. The dew point will be 49 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 7 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 5 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 18 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be mostly clear 🌃, with a low of 52 degrees at 5am. Typical for tonight. Maximum dew point of 50 at 6pm. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm in the evening. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It became very sticky as the night progressed. It got down to 69 degrees. The record low of 35 occurred back in 1945.
The four day work week made the weekend come relatively fast. ⏩ But so be it. I have a modestly busy weekend scheduled with a fair number of projects to work on. Sunday doesn’t look all that great now. ☁ That said, as long as I get the battery hooked up this weekend, and hopefully hammock exchanged, I’ll be good. I guess it doesn’t matter that much if I ultimately don’t prevail on the hammock warranty — I only spent $4 — the rest I got with reward points. I’d like to get out and do some hiking before the rain comes, maybe in the Pine Bush tomorrow. 🌲
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Flag Day 🇺🇸 when the sun will be setting at 8:34 pm with dusk at 9:09 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 73 and 60 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 78 degrees. I’ll be shocked if it’s actually that warm. Been so dang cold. We hit a record high of 96 back in 1892.
