FBI Records: The Vault — Louie Louie (The Song)

You have to admit the FBI is certainly thorough in its investigations of alleged crimes, as was the case with the "Louie Louie" song. Take a look at their now public 118 page investigation above.
In 1963, a rock group named the Kingsmen recorded the song “Louie, Louie.” The popularity of the song and difficulty in discerning the lyrics led some people to suspect the song was obscene. The FBI was asked to investigate whether or not those involved with the song violated laws against the interstate transportation of obscene material. The limited investigation lasted from February to May 1964 and discovered no evidence of obscenity.

Margie Singleton – Ode to Billie Joe

Margie Singleton's version of Bobbie Gentrie's Ode to Billie Joe. This song got a lot of play on country music stations in the late 1960s but has all been forgotten in the past 50 years. The oldies stations still play Bobbie Gentry's version but I doubt many country stations still play Margie Singleton.

The irony of the song is that the Tallahatchie Bridge is not a good one to commit suicide on. Bobbie Gentry intended for the song to be more ironic then about suicide. Bobbie Gentry's goal with the song called out the callousness of society as the Vietnam War was escalating, with the family noting the suicide in with more mundane business of life.

Farmville, Virigina. I love to horrify my liberal friends when I tell them my favorite conservative talk radio host is Cam Edwards of NRA News and also 40 Acres and Fool. He lives in Farmville, although he often is in the DC metro area working as the spokesperson for the NRA. I really like his programs, he’s such an entertaining good old boy who like his hogs, backstrap, and guns.

But then again, on balance I do like watching the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC. So I’m still a good liberal. Haha.
