Peter, Paul and Mary – Christmas Dinner
I haven't heard this Peter, Paul and Mary song in decades, and it reminded me of my childhood. So I thought I would share it.
On Centenary Of His Birth, Folk Legend Pete Seeger Remembered For Musical, Social Contributions | Wisconsin Public Radio
In a time of division in our world along political, religious, economic and philosophical lines, the 100th anniversary of Pete Seeger's birth is a chance to honor someone who, as he once said, "sang for everybody."
Born on May 3, 1919, Seeger's birthday centenary gives fans of his music — and those yet to discover it — a chance to appreciate the contributions he made not only to folk music, but to society in general. A powerful example of that is his testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in August 1955 and how he braved the fallout.
Ride, Ride, Ride
A cowboys life is a lonely road
Your back gets bent and your legs get bowed
Riding herd from town to town
Make your bed on cold hard ground
North to the grass-covered plains we go
south where wild winter winds don't blow
Early morning untill the daylights gone
Round up strays and keep moving on
Allan Sherman – A Waste of Money
Phil Ochs – Half a Century High
John Denver – Farewell Andromeda
Lately I've been listening to a lot of John Denver. I guess my taste in music changes from time to time, but I've always liked the late Denver, especially these days wearing a suit and time, imagining nights in the wilderness, looking up at the stars, sitting next to campfire with the cowboy hat on. Maybe eventually I'll move out west, I don't know, but do like nights in the wilderness for now. Even just my evening walk, looking at the stars -- at least the ones I can see through the light pollution of the city lights -- is a change from the stodgy days of life in city.
