Herkimer County

Herkimer County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. It was created in 1791 north of the Mohawk River out of part of Montgomery County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 64,519

Herkimer County is in central New York State, northwest of Albany, and east of Syracuse. The northern part of the county is in the Adirondack Park. The Mohawk River flows across the south part of the county.

Remsen Falls

Remsen Falls is a small waterfall along the South Branch Moose River in the Black River Wild Forest.

Canal Place and Moss Island Road in Little Falls

The Historic Canal Place neighborhood in Little Falls is home to many shops, apartments, condos, and nice things. It is located along the road to Moss Island, and is the brightest spot in his otherwise struggling former industrial city on the Mohawk River.

Take Wolf Lake Landing Road to the Wolf Lake Landing Parking area. Carry your boatd 1/4 mile to the lake. Wolf Lake was merged with Woodhull Lake when the reservior was formed. There is a lean-to, outhouse, and a good place to launch a hand-carried boat. AT the southern-most portion of the lake there is a a dam that holds back the lake. Part of the lake is lightly developed with cabins along the shoreline.

Exploring the Potholes on Moss Island

Hiking down into one of the major potholes on Moss Island in Little Falls along the banks of the Mohawk River. You can either paddle into these potholes, or hike down a fairly steep cliff from Moss Island.
