Hamilton County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. Its county seat is Lake Pleasant. It is one of only two counties that lie entirely within the Adirondack Park (Essex is the other). As of the 2010 census, the population was 4,836, making it the least populous county in New York. It is also the most sparsely populated county in the eastern half of the United States, with a population density of just over three people per square mile.
Hamilton County is in the north central part of the state, northwest of Albany. It lies entirely within Adirondack Park and consists mostly of publicly owned parkland. As the tourist folk will tell you, there is no permanent traffic light in the county.
I was thinking I should at some point check out the Essex Chain of Lakes, maybe off season or on a weekday to avoid the crowds. Never been back there, I think it’s mostly dirt roads so it would be nice to walk back there and explore.
Good morning! Today is the first 8:30 PM Sunset οΈβ±οΈ . Actually a bit later here as I’m farther to the west here in the Adirondacks. Two weeks to Average High is 80 π . Mostly sunny and 69 degrees at Mason Lake. There is a west-southwest breeze at 13 mph. π. The dew point is 57 degrees. The breeze this morning is nice and keeping the bugs in control. π Last night until dusk the black flies were bad but this morning with the low humidity, they aren’t bad at all.
Today will be mostly sunny π, with a high of 83 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 28th. Maximum dew point of 57 at 10am. West wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Up north with that breeze it should be pretty nice. Back in Albany I bet they are roasting. A year ago, we had partly cloudy skies in the morning with some clearing in the afternoon. It was sticky. The high last year was 85 degrees. The record high of 97 was set in 1925.
I am planning a pretty lazy day on the hammock, π΄ maybe doing some fishing π£, day drinking π», laying in the hammock and possibly a swim ππ»ββοΈ. I don’t feel real ambitious, going to be a hot one and truth be told, I just want a day and away from it all. Between that fire at Mr. Wolcott’s house to issues I have in my own life, to everything that’s been going on in my life its but wild. π€ͺ I just want a weekend with nothing crazy going on, just quiet and relaxing. Next week is going to be really busy and there might be some work projects today so I’m camping π here at Mason Lake where I know I have good cell service π±. Lots of laying back.
Solar noon π is at 12:57 pm with sun having an altitude of 69Β° from the due south horizon (-0.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:53 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (296Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-northwest (303Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:36 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 29 seconds with dusk around 9:10 pm, which is 43 seconds later than yesterday. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:57 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies π and temperatures around 75 degrees. The dew point will be 54 degrees. There will be a west breeze at 15 mph. Today will have 15 hours and 18 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 4 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will be partly cloudy π€, with a low of 63 degrees at 4am. Eight degrees above normal. Maximum dew point of 54 at 6pm. West wind 10 to 15 mph. In 2020, we had mostly clear skies in the evening, which became partly cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It was humid. It got down to 60 degrees. The record low of 38 occurred back in 1971.
Yesterday when I went to boot windows for the Zoom Meeting πΉ the silly windows took 25 minutes to boot so my cover was blown that I was working from the Adirondacks as I had to connect using my phone without the virtual background. It’s the worst kept secret ever that I often work from the Adirondacks when working remotely. π» Sometimes technology fails but I made my meeting and work gets done. I really hope they keep the remote hybrid model at work, however their is a lot of resistance to that.
As previously noted, there are 2 weeks until Average High is 80 π when the sun will be setting at 8:42 pm with dusk at 9:18 pm. On that day in 2020, we had hot, partly cloudy and temperatures between 88 and 70 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 80 degrees. We hit a record high of 94 back in 1995.
That weekend in two weeks is going to be the Juneteenth weekend βΊ which I am thinking would be perfect for some quiet time with no cell service π and no internet at Piseco-Powley Road. As much as I like being connected to the world its nice to be off the grid spending a lot of day at the Potholers or maybe better yet that campsite at the House Pond Campsite with the swimming ππ»ββοΈ hole nearby if I can get it. Come July, definitely want to check out the renovated Mine Kill Pool and Burnt Rossman Hills Forest and then of course summer vacation in the Finger Lakes. π
It is starting to look like Sunday through Tuesday will be the first official HEAT WAVE of 2021 !! π β
Last heat wave in Albany was June 20-23, 2020. Had warm days in July and August but no heat waves. You need three 90 degrees consecutive days to have a heat wave.
July 2020 had five 90 plus degrees days but only two were consecutive. August had no 90 degrees days. So no heat waves since June of last year! Maybe it was the cold bias on the thermometer at the airport, or otherwise we would have at least two heat waves in July 2020.
People in Albany in 1963, really could have sung along Martha Reeves about Heat Wave. That was a very hot summer, with three heat waves, one lasting six days, every day in the 90s!
