Gobbler’s Knob

When people travel to Punxsutawney to see where Phil the groundhog makes his annual weather prediction, they often spend fruitless time searching downtown, because that’s where it was located in the movie Groundhog Day. In fact, Hollywood made that up (the film wasn’t even made in Punxsutawney). The real location is a couple of miles out of town, in a little clearing at the top of a wooded hill.

Gobbler’s Knob doesn’t look like it gets many visitors outside of February 2nd. Everything, however, is left in place for the off-season traveler: the big stage, the “Punxsy Phil” sign, and even Phil’s simulated tree stump. You can stand center stage and make your own weather forecast for an imaginary audience (just make sure to leave the place the way that you found it). “If my Optimus Prime dashboard action figure* sees his shadow, it’ll be… daytime! He did it! Hooray!”
