Fulton County

Fulton County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,531. Fulton County is in the central part of the state, northwest of Albany. It is in the southern portion of the Adirondack Park and is famous for it’s ’44 Lakes’.

Rebuilt Driveway

When I first got to Campsite 14, the driveway up to it was steeply erroded by last years flooding, making it easy for passenger cars and even stock trucks to get hung up. I didn't like how step it was either because I was having trouble getting in and out without four-wheel drive on. So I dredged some material from the drainage ditches, and hauled some heavy rock to build up and smooth the entance to the campsite, so while it's still not perfect -- really needs a culvert -- it should make it a lot easier to get in and out, especilaly for passenger cars. I am hoping the small boulders I put in place along with the ditching I did for rain, will keep this campsite driveway from erroding so quickly in the future.

Work Continues On Brayhouse Brook Crossing

Truth be told that isn’t that far away and it seems like they are making progress on reopening Piseco Powley Road and maybe access will be available by the start of hunting season by September 1st. They probably have to be done by September 30th, the end of the municipal fiscal year to get state grants for storm rebuilding.

I always like a good Indian Summer trip to the Potholers, one last visit before the nip of the autumn air kicks in and I get busy with autumn activities at work. Maybe either camp at the House Pond site or Powley Place.

By waiting until after Labor Day, the crowds will be gone, more campsites will be open and more choices will be available for a nice weekend in the wilderness.

I am thinking like in years past, I would combine it with a trip to Moss Island and Little Falls, hike some of the bike trail or paddle some of the canal as summer 2020 fades away into the colors of autumn. Seems like a fitting end to the summer.
