Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA

The Elm Avenue Park and Ride offers a convenient way to get downtown without the hassles of urban traffic. Located next to the Elm Avenue Park at the end of the Delmar Bypass (NY 32), it is serviced by several buses that will quickly transport you downtown.

There is a new, expanded schedule for the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. 5 morning buses depart there, 5 buses in the afternoon plus a mid-day bus schedule. Very convenient. http://www.cdta.org/uploads/Route719.pdf

March 10, 2016 Evening

Good evening! Currently it’s pouring out there and 60 degrees with a 7 mph south wind. The dew point is a comfortable 56 degrees if you are out of the rain.

It’s raining hard enough tonight I got a bit damp but not wet out out waiting for the bus. Traffic is moving slowly heading north out of downtown and heading south with the rain, I’m sure not exactly flying either. Rain covered roads can be slick, so it’s good to take your time.

If the heavy rain continues I may just stay home this evening. We will see. I’m tired and there is some videos I’d like to watch on my laptop.

Remember if it wasn’t so darn warm, this heavy rain instead could be a lot of snow. It is only March 10th. Some years we get some real big blizzards in March. I’m certainly not discounting the fact that we may get a heavy snow storm before the end of winter. But it won’t happen until late March or early April, which means that the snow regardless of how deep it is, won’t last.

Tonight the sun will set at 5:57 pm with darkness around 6:25 pm, which is 1 minutes and 11 seconds later than yesterday. In four weeks on April 7 the sun will be setting at 7:29 pm (Daylight Savings Time), which is 1 hour and 32 minutes later then today.

Tonight we have a Waxing Cresent Moon with 13% illuminated. It will set at 7:29 pm. The First Quarter Moon is next Thursday and the March’s Full Worm Moon is on March 22nd.

Tonight look for some more rain, mainly before 3am. Low around 45. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. A very mild evening on tap, about 21 degrees above normal. The record low of -10 degrees was set back in 1939. We can still have some pretty frigid evenings this time of year.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the forecast only seems to improve. Saturday will be sunny, with a high near 61. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 39. Sunday will be partly sunny, with a high near 58. I may have to go into the office on Saturday morning but it should be an exceptionally nice weekend if the forecast is to believed.

Pretty busy day today at work. The important thing is that I kept things moving along. Tomorrow is a new day with new adventures. I really hope I can get out of town and this weekend promises to be as nice as the early forecasts suggest.

I hope your Thursday is going well. Have a great evening!

March 10, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Currently cloudy and 58 degrees with calm wind. The dew point is creeping up to 53 degrees. It is already raining in the Adirondacks and the rain will be heading south in the next few hours.

Walked down to the express bus stop with nothing more than a t-shirt and a rain coat. It is nice not having the heat on and the windows open to hear the birds in the morning. I know this warm weather won’t last so it’s best to enjoy if while you still can.

Today look for rain, mainly after 10am. High near 67. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Continued warmth today, with temperatures about 25 degrees above normal. The record high of 72 degrees was set back in 1977. We aren’t expected to break the record today, especially with the rain coming.

Tonight the sun will set at 5:57 pm with darkness around 6:25 pm, which is 1 minutes and 11 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 43 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight look for more rain, mainly before 3am. Low around 43. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. That’s about 19 degrees above normal. The record low of -10 degrees was set back in 1939. We won’t be anywhere close to that record.

There are 1 month, 8 days until Tax Day when the sun will be setting at 7:41 pm (Daylight Savings Time). The average high temperature for Tax Day is 60 degrees, with a record high of 90 in 1976.

While I doubt you’d want to wish him a happy birthday, today is the birthday of the lateΒ James Earl Ray, assassin ofΒ Martin Luther King, Jr. He passed away in 1998. Today in 1969, he plead guilty to the assassination and then unsuccessfully tried to withdraw the plea, claiming he was coerced into the plea by the federal prosecutor. Who knows, there is a lot of lingering questions about the role of J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI in the assassination.

March 4, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Currently cloudy and 20 degrees with a 5 mph north-northeast wind. Not too cold but also kind of cloudy. But getting nicer as the day progresses.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 19. North wind around 6 mph.

Today in 1957, the S&P 500 stock market index is introduced, replacing the S&P 90.

On the women’s rights front, in 1917, Jeannette Rankin of Montana becomes the first female member of the United States House of Representatives.

Happy 65th Birthday to Governor Rick Perry. Oops. He’s the governor of the great state of Texas. A one time presidential candidate, is best remembered for forgetting the names of the departments he said he wanted to repeal as president.

There are 23 days until Easter when the sun will be setting at 7:16 pm (Daylight Savings Time).

Walked down to the Park and Ride. Not too cold of a morning. I wish we had more sun but all and all, the weather ain’t bad, and it will be progressively nicer as our Friday continues. Gets even nicer for Saturday, a bit sunnier with mostly seasonable temperatures.

March 3, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Happy Thursday. Currently 19 degrees and mostly sunny with a 13 mph northwest wind. The wind chill value is currently 6. A rather chilly morning but with the sun doesn’t feel that bad. Just protect yourself from the wind, and you’ll be fine.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 31. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph. Tonight the sun will set at 5:48 pm with darkness around 6:16 pm, which is 1 minutes and 13 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 23 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 53 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow showers after 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Today in 1938, Oil is discovered in Saudi Arabia. This discovery forever would change world energy markets and increase the importance of the Middle East.

Also today in 1969, Apollo 9 was launched. It was the third manned mission in the United States Apollo space program and the first flight of the Command/Service Module (CSM) with the Lunar Module (LM).

Happy Birthday to Alexander Gram Bell who invented the first telephone. He was born on this day in 1847, and has been long dead. Of course nowadays none of phones are like those wired machines of yesteryear.

There are 1 month, 22 days until Arbor Day when the sun will be setting at 7:49 pm (Daylight Savings Time).

Got up early and walked down to the Express bus downtown. I barely made the earlier express bus, as I’ve gotten out of the habit of getting up earlier on the darker mornings of recent. But early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise. Plus I like my morning walks down to the bus stop.

February 26, 2016 Evening

Good evening! Currently 27 degrees and a few clouds and breezy with a 21 mph west-northwest wind, with gusts up to 39 mph. The wind chill value is currently 13. That wind sure is biting this evening, especially downtown.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 15. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Below zero windchills on tap, but they won’t last.

Tonight will have 12 hours and 52 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over last night. Still a reasonable amount of daylight as I write this post. I can’t wait until we have more daylight than darkness and the cold isn’t so biting.

Tonight we will have a Waining Gibbous Moon with 73% illuminated. It will rise at 9:08 pm. If you don’t mind the cold and plan to stay up, a good night for viewing the moon. The Last Quarter Moon is on Tuesday and the New Moon is on March 9th.

Going to be a very nice weekend….

Saturday will be sunny but increasing clouds, with a high near 39. Light south wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the morning. It should be a pretty nice one for late February.

Saturday Night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Sunday will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 50. South wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tonight I will pack for the Adirondacks. It only one night, so not a lot of gear, although it needs to be well organized, as I’ll be towing it back to camp on a sled. Going to be a great weekend weather wise.

Thank God for letting you make it to the weekend. If you choose to drink, don’t drive. Have a great evening!

February 26, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Currently 24 degrees with lots of sun but breezy with a 21 mph west wind, with gusts up to 30 mph. The wind chill value is currently 9. With the bright sun, it doesn’t feel that cold though. Wear a sweater and keep most, you’ll be fine out there.

It was a pretty nice walk down to the Park and Ride, although I didn’t wake up quite as early as some mornings because I got watching a video on my laptop, and lost track of time. Those bushcraft videos you can find on the YouTube are pretty interesting. The blue skies are nice this morning, regardless if you don’t like the cold. Between PBS Newshour and other PBS programs, YouTube videos, and other content, there really is a lot of interesting things to watch.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 30. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Typical late February weather. Tonight the sun will set at 5:40 pm with darkness around 6:09 pm, which is 1 minutes and 15 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 11 hours and 6 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 50 seconds over yesterday. That’s nearly three more minutes!

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 14. Northwest wind 5 to 14 mph. Cold night for late February on tap. The weekend will be a fair bit warmer, especially Sunday where they say it might reach 50 in the city.

Tomorrow is my sister’s baby shower then I’m heading up to the Adirondacks to camp. I will pack tonight and pick up any required supplies in Glens Falls after the shower. Sunday I’ll either hike Hadley or maybe that trail in Warrensburg or maybe somewhere else. We will see.

There are 1 month, 28 days until Arbor Day when the sun will be setting at 7:49 pm (Daylight Savings Time).

Today back in 1929, Β PresidentΒ Calvin CoolidgeΒ signs an executive orderΒ establishing the 96,000 acre Grand Teton National ParkΒ inΒ Wyoming, one of the great jewels of the national park system.

Also in 1972, the Buffalo Creek floodΒ caused by a burst dam kills 125 inΒ West Virginia. Dam safely is important.

Happy Birthday to the late Johnny Cash and the very much still alive but elderly Fats Domino. Both had some remarkably good songs back in their days. They have a nice sunny day, at least in Albany to celebrate their birthdays.
