April 26, 2023 Morning

I bet the teats on that camel in Vermont is cold this morning 🐪

Maybe it’s just a heavy dew this morning but boy is it cold. Suns a rising quickly but it was hard to get out of bed with the cold.

Good morning! What day is it? A Frosty Hump Day, of course. Mostly clear and 32 degrees in Delmar, NY. 🌅 Calm wind.

Hopefully this Wednesday won’t have a fast let down like like a camel has. 🥛 Regardless I’m moving but not that quick, as I do my morning walk 🚶. 8.2 miles walked yesterday.

Today will have a chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Increasing clouds 🌞, with a high of 58 degrees at 2pm. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 13th. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. A year ago, we had light rain in the morning, which became light rain by afternoon. The high last year was 55 degrees. The record high of 90 was set in 1990. 0.3 inches of snow fell back in 1993.❄

I can’t believe how cold ❄ it’s been lately. My office 🏢 felt cold yesterday and I have had to wear my hoodie both for my morning and evening walks. Maybe I was spoiled after those 80 degrees days earlier in April. El Nino is coming this summer 🏖 so they’re predicting a hot one. I just want my hot coffee ☕ when I get back inside.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:54 pm with sun having an altitude of 60.8° from the due south horizon (-10° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 3.3 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour 🏅 starts at 7:11 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (283°). 📸

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:50 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:19 pm, which is one minute and 8 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the west-southwest (239°) at an altitude of 63° from the horizon, 251,715 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:57 pm. At sunset, watch out for for rain 🌧 and thunderstorms 🌩 and temperatures around 51 degrees. There will be a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 13 hours and 55 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over yesterday.

Yesterday evening the Voorheesville bus 🚍 never came. I waited and waited assuming it was running late like the other five riders, some going to Voorheesville but it never came. Ended up waiting and taking the local home. 🚏 Then I gave the riders parked at the Elm Ave Park and Ride a ride over in my big jacked up truck. 🛻 And of course the local was running late too so I didn’t end up having dinner until 6:45 and I was hungry.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am, then a slight chance of showers between 2am and 3am. Mostly cloudy 🌧, with a low of 39 degrees at 5am. Not as cold. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 21st. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 50%. April 25, 2023 Morning

Late again ⌚

Does anybody use a watch in 2023? Second gear didn’t want to engage properly but I’m finally out walking and I think I can make up sufficient time during breakfast to catch the express.

Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Partly cloudy and 38 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ There is a northwest breeze at 6 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around noontime.

I’m up and moving 😴 early enough to avoid the smoldering cars and the traffic around the High School 🏫 and I think I’ll make the morning work for me. I think I’ll reheat those pancakes 🥞 I made up this weekend. Then hurry into the shower, iron my clothes and run out to the bus. 🚌 That said, usually these days the bus is running late so I’ll probably be good on time.

Today will have a slight chance of showers after 1pm. Partly sunny 🌞, with a high of 54 degrees at 5pm. 10 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 5th. Monday was good, ☺ a somewhat busy day but I found a spec sheet 📄 for my bicycle 🚲 so I could order parts for it. I believe I’m getting closer to getting it back on the road. Walked 9.1 miles, mostly in the evening after work but I also stepped out of the office mid-day for while.

Today is a pay day 💵 which is good as rent is due the end of the week with May just around the corner. My rent remains quite affordable and living in the city I don’t have to drive anywhere. And once I get my bike running my hope is to start saving on my bus 🚍 fare too.

The sunset is in the west-northwest (289°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 7:48 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 4 seconds with dusk around 8:18 pm, which is one minute and 9 seconds later than yesterday. 🌇 At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter 🌓 Moon in the west-southwest (255°) at an altitude of 56° from the horizon, 250,541 miles away. 🚀 The best time to look at the stars is after 8:55 pm. The lock 🔒 on my door 🚪 has been acting up again but I found another key 🗝 and seemed to free it up. I’ll have to see if I have some lock grease around or I’ll have to call the landlord. I think things corroded up a bit from the heavy rain over the weekend.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌤, with a low of 35 degrees at 3am. Six degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 11th. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Checking Me Out

April 24, 2023 Morning

The changes of moonlight to sunlight 🌅

It’s actually a pretty damp morning and cloudy but I’m out walking and I do have the lyrics of that song reversed. But I’m going forward and that’s what is important.

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Cloudy and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a northwest breeze at 10 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 5 pm.

I’m moving forward on this Monday morning 🚶 though I have no idea where the week will lead. But come Friday if I walk 5 miles each day it will be 100 days of walking at least 5 miles a day. 💯

Today will have a slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy 🌦, with a high of 55 degrees at 4pm. Eight degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around April 7th. Oatmeal 🥣 this morning, then ironing my shirt and showering 🚿 and then the express bus 🚍 downtown 🏢. Session is at 10 am for the extender and the redistricting lines, and I expect to be heading back home at five 5⃣ on the express. Have dinner. Then walk down to the park 🏞 until dusk and try to get in 7-9 miles walked. And forward to Tuesday. Not sure how long of a week it will be with session.

The next step on the bicycle 🚲 rebuilding process is confirming the spoke length and studying up on the truing process. Then rebuilding the wheel. Once I think the wheel is good, I’ll put the gears back on, reassemble the tire, redo the chain and ultimately replace the missing derailer cable. And ride.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌃, with a low of 36 degrees at 6am. Five degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 14th. Northwest wind around 6 mph. In 2022, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 49 degrees. The record low of 23 occurred back in 1965.

I was hoping for a nice weekend ⛺ so I could get out of town before the black flies 🐜 were out in mass but it seems unlikely based on the current forecast. Plus I saw the governor announced a budget extender through Friday so probably not using a get out of jail free card 🆓 for Thursday and Friday this week. Maybe next, if I go to the Adirondacks I’ll bring bring DEET and the screen tent 🎪.

The long range looks cool 🌺 for closing out the month and heading to May. But will El Nino on its way I’m sure it will be cool until it’s not. 🏖 Somehow I expect the second half of the month to be ungodly hot.

That said, next Monday is May 🕊 when the sun will be setting at 7:56 pm with dusk at 8:25 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 69 and 35 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 66 degrees. We hit a record high of 86 back in 2001.

 Catskill Mountains

Rethinking my diet, again 🍔🐟 🍻 🍏

I like that I have chosen to eat healthier. I like that I’ve lost weight, that was feel more nourished and don’t find my blood sugar crashing up and down constantly.

But as summer approaches, I do think I might have gotten a bit too strict. While I don’t want to make it a habit, I do think I want to be able to enjoy am occasional hamburger, a cold glass of milk, or a beer up at camp. Maybe a few cookies as a snack during the evening or an ice cold beer. Or even stop at an ice cream stand.

Yet I also don’t have to flood my home with candy or unhealthy foods. I can continue to have well balanced meals with lots of vegetables, especially when in season in the summer. I can have lots of fruit for healthy snacks, limit portions of junky stuff while adding lots of healthy stuff for a full portion to eat. That doesn’t mean big bowls of pasta or carbohydrates but a small portion of pasta lots of fiber like kale or spinach would be good.
