It’s unofficially summer 2023 π
Heading up to the mid 90s by mid-week to kick off dairy month then cooling down by the weekend after thunderstorms on Friday. But in the mean time beautiful weather for the work week and that freshly cut hay smells amazing.
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. Sunny and 56 degrees in Delmar, NY. π There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. π.
Out walking πΆ bright an early right around 6 o’clock 6β£ but truth he told with the sunrise this early these days it ain’t that early. I have my doctors appointment at 8:30 and I plan to walk there after breakfast and a shower π§βοΈπ©Ί so I wanted to make sure I had sufficient time this morning. Health-wise I feel great but I figured getting checked out isn’t a bad thing especially as it’s free and I’m doing a lot more exercise and healthy activity.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 79 degrees at 3pm. Four degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. South wind 5 to 7 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. It was somewhat humid. The high last year was 88 degrees. The record high of 92 was set in 1987.
I’m thinking today would be a good morning for eggs, spinach and feta π³ to start out the day with a good punch. I also found some younger garlic mustard in the woods I foraged that I want to add to the meal π΄. With summer and eating healthy I’m going to try to forage more food. It’s surprising how much is out there if you look. π Wild Juneberries soon are a delicious treat. π Soon!

Maximum dew point of 59 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Typical average high for the weekend is 76 degrees.
I’m heading out of town this weekend π but how far I go is yet to be decided. Hammock Camping offers more options close to home. I’ve thought about paddling Lilly Lake in the Adirondacks or maybe Rensslearville State Forest and spending at least one night hammock camping at the new Hillcross Parcel to watch the stars over the Catskills from the pond.
As previously noted, there are 3 weeks until Primary Day π³οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 82 and 47 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1953.
Peer Pressure Cooker
If I could always be on my own and not be constantly tested though it would be so easy. People think it’s the cookies in the grocery store or the McDonald’s down the street that’s the temptation. But actually it’s the peer pressure and the constant offers free food. Nobody invites you to quite as many receptions or brings in the most amazing cakes and cookies until you quit eating them. People act like your some kind of psychopath for rejecting them. And then they use reverse psychology on you, it’s okay, I understand your on a diet or not hungry, or some kind of werido.
A somewhat slow start to my Memorial Day Weekend πΊπΈ
I came to the conclusion after two hours of cuss words and fiddling with my bike spokes to take it to the dealer Downtube and have them rebuild the wheel, tune and repair the derailer. Hopefully find a solution once and for all to the broken spokes. I’ve been waiting too long for parts, struggling to much to make repairs and I want to throw some money at it and getting running good so I can up many more miles on it with quality dealer repairs.
Good morning! Happy Saturday. Finally the Memorial Day Weekend! Sunny and 53 degrees in Delmar, NY. π There is a north-northwest breeze at 5 mph. π. The dew point is 44 degrees.
It’s an absolutely beautiful weekend βΊ but I’m starting it off slow as I’ve needed to catch up on sleep for some time now and have a long list of things I’m working through before the bike store π² opens at 11 am then I’m going to hammock camp for two nights in the back country, not in the Adirondacks. I’ve been packing my large backpack, I got a bug screen for my hammock last night. π Checked the tightness of the lug nuts on the truck and now I’m out walking πΆ.
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 79 degrees at 4pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. North wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. It was humid. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.
I’m looking forward to setting up camp βΊ and a few quiet nights in the back country. But first I want to get the bike to the shop. πͺ It looks like I have a little bit of legislative work to do this morning but I’ll get that done and then up to camp. π²

The Friday before Memorial Day Weekend πΊπΈ
And I’m so not rushing around to make sure I have everything packed so I can be eaten alive by the black flies while I struggle to find cell service so I can work. Or rolling out of Mayfield watching traffic queue three miles in the distance as people crawl towards Northville and I’m openly wondering if all the good campsites are taken. I’m sure there is a lot of summer and autumn left.
Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday before Memorial Day Weekend! πΊπΈ Sunny and 42 degrees in Delmar, NY. π Calm wind. An absolutely beautiful morning, although a bit cool for the morning walk.
These days with the early sunrise π I find it difficult to sleep much past five o’clock which is bad for the sleep π΄ as it’s also hard to get to bed before 9:30 or so after the evening walk πΆ. But I’m moving forward and I’m thinking eggs, tofu spinach and feta for breakfast this morning. π³ I’ve really been overdoing the sugar lately and eggs have an amazing staying power for the full day. πͺ
Today will be sunny π, with a high of 72 degrees at 5pm. Two degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around May 19th. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Should be a pretty nice day. βΊ Yesterday wasn’t half bad, walked 11 Β½ miles had a good dinner with salmon, peppers, tomatoes and a lemon juice π topping. Work was busy but it’s exciting getting that new Census Housing Data for sure. π₯ That said, I had most depressing project to review yesterday π but not everything can always be happy and fun when you are paid to review it.
Solar noon π is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.5Β° from the due south horizon (-2.3Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:40 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293Β°). πΈ
Going to catch the earlier express bus ππ in this morning so I can bring the Lupine Festival π¦ display to my office π’ and hopefully bring it back to Lynne this afternoon. Then do some more walking πΆ before getting down to work for the day. As I won’t be leaving right from work today to the Adirondacks I figure I won’t be guilty of such clock π watching today but it should still go by quickly as I expect to be quite busy.
The sunset is in the west-northwest (300Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 8:22 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with dusk around 8:54 pm, which is 55 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the First Quarter π Moon in the southwest (234Β°) at an altitude of 52Β° from the horizon, 251,804 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 9:38 pm. At sunset, look for mostly clear skies π and temperatures around 65 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 15 hours of daytime, an increase of one minute and 37 seconds over yesterday.
After work tonight I want to go to the library π and get a book to read for the holiday weekend then run to Walmart after 8 pm after they restocked followed by Market32 for anything they don’t have. π«ππΆοΈπ₯ Want to make sure to have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables for camping π.
Tonight will be mostly clear π, with a low of 45 degrees at 5am. Seven degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around May 7th. Light and variable wind. In 2022, we had cloudy skies in the evening, which became mostly clear by the early hours of the morning. It became humid as the night progressed. It got down to 63 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1969.
The plan for tomorrow π² is to work on the bicycle in the morning π» along with any other work that comes in tonight into the morning then go out and primatively hammock camp βΊ in the back country as simply as possible doing all my cooking π³ over a fire with hiking πΆ, reading and nature observation during the day. Use a candle π― and the fire π₯ for light at night π.
Tomorrow will be sunny π, with a high of 79 degrees at 5pm. Five degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 12th. Calm wind. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 77 degrees. The record high of 94 was set in 1914.
Looking ahead to Sunday, sunny, with a high near 85. β Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph in the afternoon. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. That will feel like summer. Typical average high for the weekend is 74 degrees.
And Memorial Day πΊπΈ will be sunny β with a high of 87 degrees as the heat wave strengthens heading into the work week, even if Monday is a holiday. I’m sure it will be a long and busy work week next week, though maybe not so bad as Tuesday is the Assembly Majority picnic and Thursday is a get away day. Then that final hellish week and they will be gone. And then the recovery weekend for me spent with dad at the Gas Up. π
The truth is I’m more focused on the following weekend, June 3-4 for more of a get out of town adventure βΊπΆπ³π² just because I know the woods will be quieter that weekend, the black flies less bad π, water warmer, less traffic and likely less work for me. All a win – win assuming the warm weather doesn’t crap out by then. And of course, Juneteenth long weekend extended by a few extra days at the Potholers. πββοΈ
Looking ahead, there are 7 weeks until National Nude Day π± when the sun will be setting at 8:33 pm with dusk at 9:06 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy and temperatures between 85 and 65 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 84 degrees. We hit a record high of 99 back in 1995.
Unusual Cross-Ideological Agreement in Tyler v. Hennepin County
This morning, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Tyler v. Hennepin County, an important Takings Clause case involving the practice of "home equity theft," under which local governments can seize the entire value of a property in order to pay off a much smaller delinquent property tax debt. Geraldine Tyler, the plaintiff in the case, is a 94-year-old widow whose home, valued at $40,000, was seized by the County government after she was unable to pay off $15,000 in property taxes, penalties, interest, and fees. The County then proceeded to keep the entire $40,000 for itself, as Minnesota state law allows it to do. Tyler contends this violates the Takings Clause of the Fifth Amendment, which requires the government to pay "just compensation" anytime it takes private property.
The Hump Day before Memorial Day Weekend, of course πͺ
Get away day for the legislature so I’ll be heading home at five o’clock again though the umbrella might be a good idea even if the thunderstorms are likely to be earlier this afternoon and an umbrella is little use in blustery downtown.
Good morning! Third gear, a lean right. Mostly cloudy and 55 degrees in Delmar, NY. π₯ There is a south-southeast breeze at 7 mph. π. The dew point is 45 degrees.
I’m up and going and I actually got to bed π only a little after nine 9β£ last night but I woke up for a while and now my ass is dragging a bit but I’m going. I guess I need to eat more kale, lol. π₯I haven’t decided yet between oatmeal or heated oatmeal – banana π pancakes for breakfast, both are good options.
I was food journaling yesterday and while I’m doing good on most of the vitamins and fiber, π while keeping calories and fats within healthy levels, I’m now deficient on calcium and Vitamin D. The later is less of a problem in the summer with the sun β but I should go back to drinking a glass of skim milk π₯ daily. I like dairy and could easily drink a half gallon a day but that’s way too much calories. Eating too much sugar, mostly from fresh or frozen fruit snacking throughout the day.
Halfway through the week at least by afternoon and no need to dress up the rest of week π΄οΈ which is good as I like walking down to the Park and Ride and not having to iron my shirts. I’m not going to be able to visit John this weekend but I still don’t think it’s a good weekend to go up north despite the rapidly improving forecast.
Today will have a slight chance of showers before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 3pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3pm. Increasing clouds ππ π¦οΈ, with a high of 76 degrees at 1pm. Two degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around June 1st. Maximum dew point of 58 at 2pm. South wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Solar noon π is at 12:53 pm with sun having an altitude of 68.1Β° from the due south horizon (-2.7Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 2.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 7:39 pm with the sun in the west-northwest (293Β°). πΈ
I got more cranberry beans soaking in the fridge today, and plan to cook a seperate pot of brown rice π and lentils as I’m almost out again after today’s lunch. Probably tomorrow before work. π² Beans are a great source of protein and fiber.

Today will have 14 hours and 57 minutes of daytime, an increase of one minute and 43 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear π§, with a low of 40 degrees at 6am. 11 degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around April 24th. North wind 9 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. In 2022, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 55 degrees. The record low of 30 occurred back in 1956.
A picture perfect Memorial Day Weekend on tap. π Saturday, sunny, with a high near 78. Maximum dew point of 51 at 8pm. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Maximum dew point of 55 at 8pm. Memorial Day, sunny and a high of 87. Summer like. Typical average high for weekend is 74 degrees.
While I’m not going to be able to see John this weekend and I’m not sure about the work load, π I am leaning towards hammock camping really primatively Saturday through Monday, two nights. βΊ That means candles for light, sleep in the hammock, especially if I can get a bug net, cooking over an open fire. π₯ I can prepare and proportion out food in advance so I don’t have to be carrying in and out food after every meal π΄. Going to be the first summer like weekend of the year.
Looking ahead, there are 4 weeks until Summer οΈβ±οΈ when the sun will be setting at 8:38 pm with dusk at 9:11 pm. On that day in 2022, we had partly cloudy, rain showers and temperatures between 70 and 51 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 81 degrees. We hit a record high of 97 back in 1938.
