I’ve lately been doing a real deep dive into the xlsxwriterpython API.
It’s great – you can take any PANDAS data frame and convert it into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet with formulas and full formatting, including merged cells, number formats, page layout, headers and footers – it looks like one had created the final output in Excel – but done programmatically so the computer does all the work and you could potentially crank out hundreds of nicely formatted, customized Excel files in a few seconds.
Friday thought with the wind will be particularly chilly. I won’t have a vehicle for the next few days until my truck has the new tires and is inspected but my pantry is full and my plan is to do some local hikes this weekend.

The radio 📻 is singing 🎶 about Bus Stop Busco but no bus could be found. After the past few days of running early she’s late. I guess that’s what happens when you want to catch the extra early bus to walk the Plaza in the morning.
Mostly cloudy and 30 degrees in Delmar, NY. ☁ There is a south-southwest breeze at 8 mph. 🍃. The skies will clear around 2 pm. Just in time for the sunset 🌇.
The air smells of styrene again 👃 from the plastics plant in Fuera Bush. I think I’d rather smell manure and silage, probably much less toxic. 🐮 They make ABS plastic in Fuera Bush for cars – mixing butane and styrene together at specific temperatures and pressures. ⚗ Styrene is particularly fugitive and pungent.
Up bright and early again. The nights are so dark, might as well take advantage of the daylight when it’s a thing. ☀ Already clearing out a bit this morning, 🚶 once I get downtown I’ll drop my lunch off at the office 🏢 and then do a little walk on the plaza. Certainly go the south already looks like a nice morning. 🌅
That said, 🚘 traffic is moving slow this morning, probably due to the Thruway ramp construction 🚧. Its plenty early enough that I don’t mind, it just means a few less steps downtown. A good chance I guess to study the Norman’s Kill Gorge while I wait.
I can’t believe they are building another enormous gas station on Southern Boulevard. ⛽ Especially in the era of climate change and more and more electric cars coming on the road. ⚡It just seem like a foolish investment of infrastructure, something that is likely to dwindling off in a decade. Climate denialists can denial but physics and even economics don’t give a rats ass. 🐀
The shop has 3 out of the 4 tires for my truck, ⚫ they expect the fourth one to arrive today and will call me probably this afternoon or maybe tomorrow. I went to the store and stocked up groceries 🏪 — along with a bunch of can goods. I know I went to store on Saturday, but my pantry has been very low, and I wanted to keep two weeks off food and supply because who knows what will happen with the pandemic. Not sure if I will have tires on and the truck inspected by the weekend but it’s winter, and I wasn’t planning on going anywhere. 🔎
By mid-month though I am hoping to get out of town for a long weekend. ❄️ Or maybe a week off — I actually still have a fair amount of vacation time I have to use or loose before the end of the year. Do I go out to the Finger Lakes? It’s possiblity. Or maybe just the Adirondacks. I am not sure, I’m considering my options.
What can I say, the forecast looks like December. 🎅
Winter comes, winter goes. Right now we are in the first part of that ordeal. Saves money though with less traveling at this point. It won’t be around forever.

Still haven’t heard about my truck tires yet, I’ve paid for them and they said it would be a week. Today my inspection expires so I’m taking my truck off the road until they arrive so I hope it won’t be long.
Mostly cloudy and 21 degrees in Delmar, NY. ⛅ Calm wind. There is a dusting of snow on the ground. ☃ Things will start to thaw out at around 11 am. 🌡️
I will call the shop this afternoon 📞 to see what is going on with the tires if they don’t call first. I was going to call yesterday but I didn’t want to be a pest. I just want this long, expensive nightmare to be over.
Tonight after work I am going to go to the store 🛒and make sure I have enough groceries and supplies for the next week to minimize inconvenience of not having a vehicle. I also want to wash the truck before parking it. Not driving will save on fuel ⛽ for sure. Didn’t even get a half tank of gas for $40 when I got gas on Saturday.
Up early again this morning, 🌅 taking the early bus 🚍 in so I can walk the Plaza. That said I don’t want to make too big of a deal about being an early riser and get put on the early morning shift at work. Some people really enjoy getting up early. I don’t but getting to bed at before 8 or 9 pm nightly means that I’m up at 5 am or so shortly thereafter. Truth be told I sleep much better on that schedule.
Maybe my biggest mistake was to embrace standard time in years past. I find I sleep far better when it’s early to bed, early to rise. 📚 Plus I don’t go to the library that often anymore because I don’t like wearing the muzzle. 😷
Traffic is really backed up on Southern Boulevard 🚘 but I have a very aggressive bus driver, and he’s flying down the left lane, 🚍 rolling through reds and passing the commuters on by. He must have a tight schedule. 📄
That said, I think I remember seeing this driver as a bus rodeo winner on CDTA Facebook 🥇 so he’s a real expert at keeping the buses moving. And did we move – despite the heavy traffic we made it from the Park and Ride on Elm 🚏to the Concourse in 9 minutes, working us through traffic like a fine sports car. 🏎
There is a strong east breeze and an air inversion so the air tastes like hydrogen sulfide 👃 from the Dunn Dump and probably all that rotting gypsum wall board. 🚧
By walking 🚶 laps around the Plaza this morning and the walk to the park and ride I should be at 6,000 steps by nine o’clock when work starts. Then if I do short walk at lunch and the park and ride home 🏡 I’ll have my ten thousand in for the day without doing an evening walk this evening. 🌃 Walking home in the dark plus the cold makes want to skip my evening walk.
Not a lot of snow ahead but generally cool and December like. I guess that’s to be expected this time of year. The weekend doesn’t look that bad but it’s too early to make plans. If I headed up to the Berskires I could use my skis 🎿. Or maybe the Adirondacks, depends on how much snow and if my truck is ready by then.
Truth be told though at this point I plan to basically hibernate, focus on work, hike out to Five Rivers 🐦 and count down the days to spring. Some smaller trips, but the days are short, the nights are long and it’s kind of cold. Maybe though definately thinking about an end of the year trip to kick off the New Year. NYE is a Friday this year.

Winters back, I heard the heat click on and off a few times last night. ❄ Not a real cold night but still winter. I told myself I would turn up the heat last night but kind of went upstairs and forgot about it. Up not quite as early as some days recently but still pretty early – around six. Pancakes 🥞 and strawberries 🍓 again this morning.
I have a meeting today so I have to dress up for work 👨⚖️ so I am taking the local bus 🚍 into the office 🏢. Actually the later bus than I should because I got working with R programming and forgot about the time. ⌚ And it’s not like I was up late, although last night I stayed up relatively late until 9 pm.
Today in the afternoon I’m going to call 📱 about the truck tires. I have reason to believe that they should arrive today or tomorrow. 🤔I’m hopeful as I’m ready to get Big Red inspected and moved behind this all.🚘
I don’t really care about Cyber Monday 🛍️ but it’s pretty obvious that there are some good deals on the stock market with Omnricon COVID out there on the horizon. 👾 As I noted on Saturday, I’m ready to work from home if necessary. I have my laptop 🖥 and my phone plan contains some hot spot data and I can upgrade to more data if it goes entirely remote again. It’s a whole lot easier the second time around and I’m quite happy to work from the wilderness when it warms up somewhat. ☀
