Everyone needs a little alone time, but these days, you might have either too much “me” time or not enough. Here’s how to find a balance and get the restorative benefits of time by yourself. (This episode originally ran in July 2020.)
The days are getting longer, at an accelerating rate with spring coming closer. The big jump is in less then 5-weeks now, with daylight savings time restarting, but even before then the evenings are getting noticeably longer.
Upcoming Sunsets:
5:30 pm sunset – Thursday, February 17 5:45 pm sunset – Tuesday, March 1 7:00 pm sunset – Sunday, March 13 Daylight Savings Time Begins – Sunset on Sunday, March 13 is at 7:00 pm 7:15 pm sunset – Saturday, March 26 7:30 pm sunset – Friday, April 8 7:45 pm sunset – Thursday, April 21 8:00 pm sunset – Thursday, May 5 8:15 pm sunset – Thursday, May 19 8:30 pm sunset – Sunday, June 5
I honestly don’t believe I will get to car wash and get groceries later, despite my hopes and beliefs. But the worse weather is likely to be downstate it seems but it could get the roads wet and salt spreaders out on the road. Days are getting nice and longer now, with us heading towards spring now. Second half of the week should be pretty nice before things crap out for the weekend.
Also, after today should be warm enough to help clean up the sidewalks and roads. Five Rivers Road was crap yesterday, a sheet of ice going down past the hill the ponds and up to New Scotland South Road, which was bad enough to require 4×4 on my big jacked up truck.

I don’t know, I didn’t mind the free-three day weekend we got out of it though with the snow and ice storm on Friday. I certainly liked sleeping in and doing no work on Friday. I could have worked from home, but it was an extraordinary day, and I am sure for people who got the ice it was a lot worse then for me who just missed his Friday walk and bitched about having to crack the ice off my windshield on Sunday.
Mostly cloudy and 16 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a south breeze at 5 mph. π. There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. β οΈThings will start to thaw out at around 11 am. π‘οΈ
Cold but not that cold start of this morning. βοΈ It’s still winter so that’s to be expected. I can take a 15 degree morning over a below zero day. That 15 degrees doesn’t seem like a big difference but it really is as the heat has to work much harder to keep things much warmer at 0 degrees then 15, and it’s just a whole lot more comfortable with the warmer weather.
Tonight I really should go grocery shopping π but I don’t know if it’s going to happen because I want to wash my truck but the roads can’t be covered with sleet, snow or just wet and me be washing my truck. But I am really low on food so I have be very creative for dinners and lunch. But I’ll make due if I can’t get out tonight. There is always the possibility that I’ll have to work late, but I have my doubts about that tonight. I guess only time will show about that point. π’
It’s good that the bus was running late, π as I was running late as I realized the clock was set incorrectly on my computer and I didn’t realize how late it was this morning. But the bus also was running late because of the snow narrowing down the streets in Albany with cars parked halfway out to the yellow line and roads being a little over a lane wide. No snow emergency this time, not enough snow, but lots of ice to make it hard for drivers get near the curb.
Yesterday, I went out to Five Rivers and skied for about an hour and a half. β· I decided to stay close to home as I wasn’t sure how bad the roads were going to be out in the Heldebergs and I had basically no fuel in my truck. β½ I still don’t have any gas — maybe 30 miles or two gallons left — but I will get that the next time I go shopping. It actually warmed up a bit and was sunny mid-day and skiing was nice at Five Rivers. Plus I was a bit worried about trying to get too aggressively out on the hills. I haven’t skied in a year, and my skis are really designed for groomed, tracked ski trails and on the steep downhills can really fly.
After a cold start to the morning a few degrees below zero, going to warm up some and then seasonably warm for the rest of the week. π€
Or so we tell ourselves. But no noticeable windchill this week, which is nice for a change. Gives the heat a break. After last night, I turned down the heat as things are plenty warm and I’m not worried about losing power at that point. Not like the weekend that was so far or the past week or so. I only fear my heating bill when it comes sometime this week, although I probably shouldn’t be that worried as I haven’t been driving much lately and it’s been a week and a half since I’ve been to grocery store, so it’s not like I’ve been racking up a lot of bills.
Today. Cold !

Yes, 1978 was 44 years ago. Before my time, but not by much. There actually is fewer and fewer people still around from the starting days of Save the Pine Bush, many have moved away or passed. I’ve been fortunate though to know many of them over the years.
Partly sunny and -2 degrees in Delmar, NY. π€ Calm wind. There are 3 inches of snow on the ground. β Cold start to the day again. οΈThings will start to thaw out at tomorrow around noontime. π‘οΈ Then much warmer next week.
I am not totally sure of my plans for the day, β· although I hope to get my truck un-iced enough to go out and see my parents later on and maybe do some skiing too. π² But first it kind of needs to warm up a bit, and maybe some more sunshine, as it’s going to be cold due to lack of sun at times. Supposed to be sunnier later. β That said, I try to get out to the folks house π‘ pretty early so I’m not driving π home in the pitch black. π
I need to get to the store π and get groceries and wash my truck π» although truth be told that is probably a task best done tomorrow after work. I think I can figure out enough food π² at least through tomorrow.
