Tomorrow is the snow storm again, 🌨 but this morning is still quite cold compared to what we have been having recently. But the exceptionally cold weather can’t last forever. The average high is 40 degrees next Monday, and within a month it will be 50 degrees for the average high. Spring is coming, the sun angle is rapidly strengthening each day.
Finally got the store and got my truck washed. 🛻 Even after the rain, there was a ton of salt on it. I didn’t really need groceries right away, but I wanted to stock up so I wouldn’t be racing out tonight before the snow storm and because I didn’t want to let the truck sit another day encrusted with salt. Going to need more primer and paint come the summer.
My winter coat still stinks of wood smoke, 🧥 so I’m wearing my dress jacket this morning. I could wash it but I know in the week or so the worse of the odor will be far less.
It was nice just wearing the vest this morning, but I am well aware that by evening I’ll want something a bit warmer with that wind whiping around.

While dairy camels may have a fast let-down, the same might be said about the weather this morning. It was heavy rain early, now it’s started to clear with the mercury dropping by afternoon. Misty but mild. I wore the vest to work with no sweater. Not bad for February but it will be in the 20s later on. And then a foot of snow for Friday?

I was thinking it was going to be a rainy day at first, 🌧 as it was pouring out when I first awoke. But I don’t know, I was kind of in a fuzzy haze this morning, as I took some cold medicine as last night I felt kind of sick and retired to bed. Doubt it’s the COVID, maybe it was because my contact lens were bothering my eyes. 👀 Felt find this morning, besides being a little groggy to say the least.
Last night I was feeling so awful though. 😣 My truck did not get washed, the salt and rust continued overnight into today. Not sure why I was feeling so sick, though I think it might have been just that my eyes were really irrated and sore from the contacts which probably were dirty from camping and well pass their wear by day. I feel good today.
Tonight though I will get to the store. 🏪 I might also top off my gas tank, because I’m sure gasoline is at a premium and it will go down. ⛽ And get the salt off my truck until well the weekend. That said, with the snow coming, I doubt I’ll be going anywhere until Sunday, though I guess I could go skiing on Saturday but I have my doubts on that point.
Not every day can be sunny, but at least we get two days of mild weather. 🌦
Not to be bad, as the rain will probably chew away at the snowbanks before we get the next big snow storm on Friday. Or maybe not. I know different forecast models say different things as we are still a ways out. ❄
But the good news is that we are heading towards March in a week and the sun angle is much stronger now so it’s unlikely the snow lasts. 🌨 Plus it’s good to have snow in March as it reduces the fire risk. 🔥
It’s nice that with the sunset 🌇 getting well after 5:30 and dusk after 6 the days feel so much longer. Plus in two weeks we will have the time change which is always good in the evenings but it will make the mornings a bit dark.

Good morning! Happy Psuedo-Monday, In Other Words a Rainy Tuesday After President’s Day. 🌧
Mild but cloudy this morning with rain expected by the afternoon. But my hope is the rain comes early so to wash the salt off the roads and then I can go to the car wash and get groceries come the time after work. I don’t expect to be working late today, so it’s a perfect night to wash my salt-encrusted and rapidly rusting truck. 🛻

The rain will be starting somewhere between 3 and 5 PM today, so pack your rain coat but maybe not the umbrella as it will be too windy. But at least mild, with temperatures expected in the mid-50s. The high temperature for today won’t be reached until 2 AM at around 55 degrees but it will be close to 50 or warmer by sunset.
Nice walk 🚶 down to the bus stop this morning. 🚏Taking the earlier express in this morning. 🌅 Going to put my lunch in the fridge and then walk laps on the Plaza. I want to get my 10,000 steps in before lunch is over and the rain ☔ comes in this evening.
Then after work I want to run to the car wash 🚘 and give the underbody of my truck a good scrub. Definitely going to need that primer and paint come the spring time. It was so salty out in Rennselearville.
It was nice getting away for part of the weekend. ⛺ Rennselearville State Forest isn’t too far from home 🏡 and CCC Road is plowed year around which helps for winter camping with access to that Campsite 2. Not a lot to do up there but hiking and wildlife observation but good skiing 🎿 and probably good hunting in the autumn. 🍂
A cold start to the morning, but it should warm up relatively quickly once the sun climbs a bit higher in the horizon. Next few days aren’t going to be real cold, which is nicer for a change.

For all this talk last night about strong winds and cold temperatures, 🌬 I didn’t think yesterday was exceptionally cold. There was that snow squall that came through, but it was very brief and locally not very intense, despite all the warnings of the weatherman. At times I feel like the weatherman is overally dramatic, just because they want to error on the side of caution with all their emergency alerts, etc. Maybe other places had different weather.
Yesterday, I was kind of chilled through, 😰 so I ended up sitting next to the space heater and on the heating pad. Did a lot of watching videos on cartography and map making, and specifically how to make and edits SVG images. GIS software and R produce maps that often quite good but not perfect or publication quality. 👨💻 The problem with automated processes is they are automated, and computers aren’t always great at finding what is visually appropriate. Labeling still remains a problem in GIS programs — QGIS has gotten a lot better but it isn’t perfect out of the box. 🏷
I am struggling a bit to master Inkscape for editing the SVG images. 🔼 Drawing brezier curves and more generally manipulating the various layers. I am sure that once you master it and learn all the clicks and shortcuts, this comes like second nature but for now I’m struggling. One of the keys though seems to be making sure when exporting from QGIS to always use the Group Layers check box and export Text as Text, rather then paths. Then it’s just a matter of turning on individual layers on and off in Inkscape. While you can get 95% of the way with GIS or R mapping, 🗺 a computer can’t see problems that a human can. 👀
I am not totally sure about my plans for today. 💭 I might just walk out to Five Rivers. That certainly is an option. Or I might decide to head out of town for an overnight. ⛽ The thing is that gasoline is so expensive, and it can be hard to find places to park and camp with the cold weather. 🏕 It’s not like spring is that far away at this point — three weeks until the time change, seven weekends until April. Plus the month of March always goes by quickly with so much going on for work. ⏲
