Seems to always be the case when I want to head out of town. I admit that I am kind of undecided about this weekend, I could just do the Nature Bus ð out to Thacher Park ð. Or maybe Schoharie if I can get that Betty Brook campsite but that might hard with the holiday weekend.

At least for thosedistricts that the special master-baiter in the Bath didn’t wreck yet. Of course, is it still primary day if you early voted as I already did some time last week?
Mostly sunny and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. â There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. ð. The dew point is 51 degrees.
The sun â is shining and it’s a pleasant morning out for the walk walk ðķ a little before 6:30. Not too hot yet although in the sun you can feel it warming up like most late June days. Not a real hot day, heading up to 77 degrees later.
Yesterday went down to the park ð and read ð for a while until dusk. 18,900 steps yesterday ðĢ, today marks 25 days of getting my steps in for the day. That step counting app is a good kick in the ass to get moving. My boots ðĒ I got in West Virginia are pretty worn at this point and need replacing. I want to try and get another week out of them before the holiday weekend.
I was thinking about going up to Peebles Island after work today, ð but I decided I would wait until next week. I might end up needing to the store to get groceries, ðŠ as I was realizing this morning I had less in my pantry then I had expected. So my trip might be to the store. I was a bit hesitant to go to store tonight, because I wanted to have a better idea on what my weekend plans were going to be first, but so be it. I can always make another trip to the store later in the week. Gas isn’t that expensive, though it is. â―
I keep seeing those eco ads ð that are supposed to make you feel guilty about your carbon footprint and buy stuff. I like trolling them. The thing is that I drive a big jacked up truck ðŧ, burn my garbage ðĨ with one trip a year to recycle cans and glass âŧ , use Styrofoam plates at camp ð―ïļ and don’t buy a lot of shit. ð Biodegradable trash bags are dumb if you don’t use many and you end up burning them with the rest of the burnable crap. Eventually I plan to use feed sacks and reuse them as many times as possible before sending them up in smoke – and butcher my own livestock ðŠ ðŪ not wrapped in plastic. ð Now that’s green. ðĨ
Been looking at replacing the battery on my laptop. ð The last battery I got from EBay or Amazon — I don’t remember lasted about a year and a half before going bad. Now it’s no it holds no charge whatsoever. I might end up just getting another inexpensive battery, as my laptop is kind of on it’s last legs and I want to get whatever life I can get out of it ðĻðŧ before having to throw it away and replace it. I tend to wear out and break my computers before they need upgrading.
In four weeks on July 24 the sun will be setting in the west-northwest (298°) at 8:25 pm,ð which is 13 minutes and 7 seconds earlier then today. In 2021 on that day, we had mostly sunny, patches of fog and temperatures between 79 and 54 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 84 and 63 degrees. The record high of 96 degrees was set back in 1941.
But maybe not so bad with that breeze. And then a respite come Monday. Warmer later in the week, and the long range suggests maybe not so great for Independence Day Weekend, though that could change.

Good morning! Going to be a hot one later on today. ð
I went out for my walk early today to beat the heat. Not bad at 6 AM, I was up around sunrise at 5:15 AM.
Mostly sunny and 64 degrees in Delmar, NY. ð There is a south-southeast breeze at 5 mph. ð. The dew point is 60 degrees.
Today’s plan to head back home after the walk ðâïļ sit by the fan and maybe go down to the library for a while. Head out to the folks house for Sunday dinner. Then maybe an evening walk, to ensure I can get my steps in for the day. ðĢ A swimming hole would be nice, but I don’t want to drive my truck too much before it’s repaired, if it was I now think is causing the ABS light to come on my truck.
I was doing some research on the ABS light on my truck, ðŧ and it’s a somewhat more of a priority after I found it’s likely the wheel bearing/hub on the opposite side that I had replaced on West Virginia trip that is going. Makes sense, it’s been somewhat noisy for some time now, and it’s a common issue on Chevy trucks — replace one wheel bearing and then the other side with a weaker speed senor kicks out error codes. Or more likely the bearing just needs to be replaced. I have noticed that bearing get progressively noisier, and even start to complain with the classic wheel bearing squeal when pushed too hard around the curves. Maybe it’s not that but I can hope.
I don’t anticipate it being that expensive, ð§ if it’s the same thing that happened on the other side of my truck. It’s just one unit, not a real expensive one, and doesn’t take a lot of time to repair. Is what it is, I’ll make an appointment come Monday. I want to avoid doing too many miles before it’s fixed. I can probably make it home from the Adirondacks with a bad wheel bearing and the wheel not falling off, but I don’t want to bother with a tow or a rental car or making a trip to god knows where to pick up my truck once it’s repaired.
I am not sure if I will be able to get out of town now for Independence Day Weekend ð but truth be told, with gas prices, I’m not that strongly thinking about heading out of town. I want to save my gas money for weekends that are exceptionally warm and sunny. Kind of like this weekend, although maybe a bit warmer still.
After a hot day cooled down nicely after dark. Clear and 75 degrees in Delmar, NY. ð Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. The air smells like silage and hay, a little bit muggy but not so oppressive. Hot inside still but I’ll fire up the fan and strip down in bed.
Just sitting out back looking at the fireflies ð and stars above. It would have been a nice weekend to get out of town but I made the most of it walking ðķ out to Five Rivers and around town, getting in 20,000 steps or ten miles in walking for the day.
Got down to the library ð and did some research for Save the Pine Bush and then came home, passed out in the heat, the woke up, did more research sitting by the fan then walked down to Elm Ave Park and watched the sunset ð.
Sipping on some cold water and ice cubes. ðĶ It’s a healthy drink and free, well the cost is included in my apartment except for the cost of electricity to make the ice cubes. I like apple juice ðĨĪ better but it does have a lot of sugar in it. I’ve really been trying to limit my sugar in take to avoid diabetes like my parents have.
I am glad I stayed in town because it’s just another opportunity to save money for my future. ðĩ I think a lot about my future and how things can be better if I continue to save and invest – while doing healthy things like walking a lot of steps and staying out of the mud and muck of politics. I have my views, and I’ll talk about them on the blog but I stay away from social media, rallies and protests. ðĪ I’ll do research and help causes out I care about but I’d rather stay behind the scenes. ð Kind of like work.
Money isn’t that big of an issue these days ð° but I often don’t have much laying around as I just want to invest whatever I can while continuing to learn new skills. I was looking today on See Through NY and I make the same as other Deputy Directors in my agency, and relatively speaking it’s good pay especially for Upstate. ðĨ My knowledge of GIS, Census data, R and python along with research into deeds and government databases isn’t just good for my job today and helping out saving the Pine Bush, it is developing skills for tomorrow. When the time comes to buy land, I will have a lot of advantages to knowing what I’m buying compared to a lot of people. I’m also learning a lot of valuable skills not just for my current job but also future ðŪ ones.
There are many that want to rush out ð and grab everything that is available today, blow a lot of money on fun. ðĪŠ But I’m willing to hold back in hope of a better tomorrow. It’s not that I won’t do anything fun this summer or any trips but especially in these inflationary times it’s best to hold back a bit, enjoy what is free and frugal locally without burning a lot of gas or blowing a lot of money. I know tomorrow will be better than today.
The summer muggers will be upon us this weekend, but then rain showers and a front will approach Monday bringing cooler, less humid weather for the work week before the Independence Day Weekend. I haven’t decided if I will head out of town for Independence Day — it is a three day weekend, might be fun if I could tack an additional day on it. Maybe Schoharie or maybe up north, all depends on the weather.
