More sun for the weekend and hotter for the weekend. It wouldn’t be a bad weekend to head out of town if I wasn’t so darn busy and gas prices weren’t high. Maybe I’ll change my mind, though I have stuff to do this evening and I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to pack. I guess there is always next week.

Yesterday afternoon was quite a stormy one, β but I missed the worse of it by deciding to work late and catch the later bus home. π For a while though that rain was pouring down hard on the window in the office π’.
Rain had let up π§ by the time I caught the later bus home and drizzled with brief up ticks on and off so no evening walk, so I didn’t get my steps π£ in and retired to bed by a little after eight 8β£.
Early to bed meant early to rise β° so I was up before six and out for my morning walk barely after the six o’clock alarm rang. πΆ Once I get back I’ll do breakfast. π₯
I was hoping to get out of town this weekend βΊ but I just don’t see it happening with the work load and everything else going on. Plus with gas prices β½ still really high a two night trip, leaving after work on Friday doesn’t seem like a good option. It’s just hard to be somewhere without cell service π± with work. Schoharie is an option but even that’s an expensive option with gas prices.
Labor Day Weekend I may head up to the Spectulator area βΊ as I have good service there and can always work down at the Spectulator Library. π₯ I was thinking that would be the long weekend I could boil clams π¦ͺ and sweet corn π½, working remote that Friday before so I can ensure that I get a campsite with cell service.
Maybe we will get more rain later but I think we’re done βοΈ
Hot come the weekend but fairly low humidity again. Not like early August but with September ahead, excessively hot days are increasingly unlikely. And with darkness coming earlier and earlier, it’s hard for the evenings to be so hot. Only a little over a month until calendar autumn – which very much is the real thing up north.

Good morning! What day is it? Cruising through August Day, of course. β
83 days until the polls close on the mid-term elections says the newsman. I haven’t checked that to be sure but I don’t see any reason to believe that he is lying to me. I already made my choice between the Rar and the Tonk.
Rain showers and 62 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 59 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 10 am.
No early morning walk due to the rain πΆ but I’m hoping to do some steps on the Plaza this morning before work. I have a busy day ahead with meetings but at least I am getting sort of caught up on the queue that built up while I was on vacation. π
Had more work that I brought down to the library π₯ and worked out the picnic table they now have out front. I’m glad I replaced the battery π in my laptop a few months back not only because it was a fire hazard as it was running hot and had expanded but because I’d not always want to be tied to a plug π. Especially in the autumn when hybrid work from the woods is more of a possibility.
Upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu 22.04 last night π¨π» and so far things have gone fairly flawlessly, bar a few random broken packages and other things I needed to fix. Linux these days is pretty good, but sometimes you just need to delete a file or tweak something, to ensure smooth sailing. β΅ Some of my GIS packages, being that I was running ubuntugis-unstable didn’t upgrade smoothly without some manual upgrades, as did Python require some manual reinstalls of packages. But in general I’m happy with the upgrade, though I don’t like how certain things have changed.
I was a bit surprised by the rain this morning π§although it really didn’t add much or end the fairly dry summer we’ve been having so far. Maybe it washed a little bit of the dust and mud off my truck but I have my doubts. The rain has pulled up the humidity and since last night things have been remarkably sticky.
I am thinking π about taking a personal day on Friday as I have a lot of miscellaneous things to get done and I want to head up to Piseco-Powley Road one last time this year before things are too busy. πβοΈ Going to be hot but nice weekend to spend at the Potholers I’m thinking.
Probably not but it does look like another nice weekend. Saturday looks warm but not super oppressive like earlier in July.

Wednesday Night. Feels like …
August 26th.
Scattered showers, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy.
Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Already noticing how much later the sun is rising though it’s still a pretty nice morning.
Partly sunny and 58 degrees in Delmar, NY. β Calm wind. The dew point is 56 degrees.
Out walking πΆ at six o’clock as I find it makes the day go so much smoother. I get my steps π£ in earlier which means that they are more likely to get done and I don’t drag so much getting started. Then I come home and have breakfast π₯ take a shower πΏ and then catch the later express bus π downtown.
I was in bed π before nine which seems early but I sleep so much better when I’m in bed at nine and get up at six o’clock. It also helps to manage the daylight so much more efficiently especially as we head into the dark time of the year. Once it gets cold, I can crawl under the electric heated blanket and stay warm without big bills.
Monday was busy but relatively sane. π’ What needed to get done got done at work in an orderly way. π I got to the grocery store and stocked my pantry. I should be good until I get the weekend. I wanted to wash my truck π» but the wash bay was closed. Doesn’t matter, truck will get dirty this weekend. β» I returned my beer cans and dwelled on how empty my trash cans are. π₯ I try to avoid buying things in metal or glass except for beer.
I early voted yesterday on my walk home from the express. π³ Only one race locally with a primary, the Congressional with Rar vs Zip or whatever you want to call the man from Amsterdam who lives in the same place as his mom and dad. I like Tonko and Amsterdam more generally, but who knows besides myself who I voted for.
I am still thinking about heading north this weekend, maybe the last time to Piseco Powley πββοΈ and the Potholers this year. The rest of the summer into the autumn, trips will likely involve a degree of remote work so I’ll have to camp βΊ places with cell service. π±
Been going through my blog logs π trying to come up with some ideas for blog posts based on searches. πYou know things like maps and coordinate data for places to camp or hike. Some of it is QGIS stuff but it’s hard to resist the power of R for doing geospatial things.
