Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
Good morning! What day is it? A beautiful early spring Hump Day, of course. π·Four weeks to May π. Partly sunny and 38 degrees down at the Elm Ave Park & Ride – CDTA. Calm wind. Pleasant π morning. Temperatures will drop below freezing around 3 am. βοΈ
This morning, not being a session day, I walked down to the express bus station π and are now riding into work. A fairly mild day, the heat was off in my apartment but it was quite comfortable waking up. π Waffles with blueberries and raspberries this morning. β With a good cup of fresh coffee, a good start to the morning. I was feeling pretty rested, finally caught up after the Big April Fools joke known as working for 24 hours straight.

This afternoon after work I’m heading over to John Wolcott’s house to continue sorting his historical files π. Probably stay until around dusk π and catch the 7:30 bus π home. No more late nights or session this week at work. The legislators all booked out of town yesterday. I packed some Save the Pine Bush Dinner lasagna πto heat up and eat before leaving work tonight. Seems like a fitting thing.

Yesterday morning was crazy π too as the bus was packed with exchange students heading downtown and I had some client issues to address over the phone π± on the bus. The evening commute – I got out a five – was much easier. Fairly smooth commute home, not too much traffic. Not quite nice enough though yesterday to go down tot he park.
Yesterday after work I went down to the library for an hour to work on the blog and a few other things. π Been really busy at work, I’ve not had the time to even briefly update β my blog from time to time on my phone. I skipped my evening walk πΆ because I was tired. I did however ride the bike π² for a while but stopped as I don’t have any more interesting YouTube videos that I’ve downloaded.

No camping βΊ this weekend as I’m going to my niece’s three year old birthday π party on Saturday but Sunday sure looks nice, although maybe too sunny for good trout fishing. Maybe early morning or evening in a deeper valley? I don’t know. I do need to get some night crawlers for sure. π A nice hike would be good too.πΆ The following week I should go to the transfer station and then start loading my camping gear back in the truck. Still hoping for decent weather for the Easter holiday weekend. π°

That changed Monday with aΒ study publishedΒ inΒ Nature Sustainability. It modeled how the production of a single crop, maize, contributes to air pollution in the U.S. The researchers found that corn production accounts for 4,300 premature deaths related to air pollution in every year. Ammonia from fertilizer application was by far the largest contributor to corn's air pollution footprint.
They always release the best studies on April Fools Day.Β That said, I'm sure people will believe this and share it for the next ten years on the internet.Β
Similarly, sick bats can be diagnosed by their smellprints. Every bat species has a distinctive smellprint. Bats infected with the fungal pathogen Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd) have different smellprints than healthy bats. Pd causes white-nose syndrome, a disease that has killed more than six million bats since 2006. Electronic noses can differentiate Pd from related fungal species that grow on bat skins but are not pathogenic, as Wilson and his colleagues recently reported in the journal Sensors & Transducers.
This evening I went to Bethlehem Neighbors for Peace showing of Michael Moore’s latest film, Fahrenheit 11-9. I was surprised how much obscenity there was in the film, both the n word and f-word are repeated. I though so much obscenity was not appropriate. But it was interesting to watch even if I didnβt agree with every part of it. Good to see the local activist types are still working for change, pushing for government accountability, even though the days of George W. Bush are long ago in history. I don’t personally get involved in political things any more beyond maybe helping out at Save the Pine Bush Dinner or hike, but it’s good to see there are concerned citizens still involved.
I got an odd BIOS error about the fan not working in my laptop when I first started. The fan been rattling almost since I got it, I meant to clean it the last time I had it open. But I don’t know, I’ve been watching the temperature gauge on my laptop, and see no evidence of it malfunctioning. I guess if I notice things running hot on the gauges, I’ll turn it off, take it apart, see if I need to clean it or replace the fan. Fortunately HP parts tend to be quite cheap and easy to get on the Internet.
