Weather Update – October 5, 2021
Drizzly and wet today, not sure about Columbus Day Weekend π
That’s the best way to describe the forecast. I still might consider taking off Friday, I am going to check the calendar at work and see if there is coverage and I may ask for it off. The weekend doesn’t look real sunny, but it also doesn’t look like a washout and it’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a chance to get out of town.

Good Morning – October 5, 2021
Good morning! Happy Tuesday. π
A few rain drops here and there and 57 degrees at the Elm Avenue Park and Ride. β Calm wind. The dew point is 55 degrees. The skies will clear tomorrow around 6 pm.
I was worried that the bus would be really late β because I saw the the 7:55 bus pull away around 8:15 as I was heading down to the park and ride but things were on time. I increased the automatic refill of my bus card π³ to $20 because I’m riding the bus more now and listening to the refill alerts is obnoxious.
Didn’t rain much while I was walking down the street to the bus π but it picked up going downtown. Apparently one of the state workers buses broke down, so we stopped by there on the way downtown. Maybe that’s why things were running late for the earlier bus. Not sure but we’re making good progress downtown now.
It’s good with the rain though, π§ I might get off at the Concourse and walk to the office in the tunnel, as I am afraid it’s going to be too wet to walk on the plaza.
I am continuing to look at tires for Big Red, β« it’s honestly not the option I necessarily want to choose but I just need to face it because it needs to get done if I want to go on vacation and get on with life. They are doing the alignment on my truck next week, so the next step is the tires. The easy option is to just order them through Mavis Tire, which I can schedule online for the BFGs. The alternative is the off-road shop, although based on their quote for the Nitto Terra Gabblers, I am leaning against them. I also looked at Tire Rack — they can ship them to an installer, but then I have to make the appointment with the installer. I could live with the price of the BFGs. I just want to make up my mind now, as I want to ensure I can get the appointment two weeks out, so I can leave the following week for West Virginia.
September 30, 2021 – Looking Ahead This Week
Thanks to the Omega block looks like October will start out cool π
I was hoping for a nice weekend, but especially up north it doesn’t look great. π I think you can say stick a fork in it at least when it comes to leaves around Pillsbury in the Adirondacks. Maybe I should have gone north last weekend.
This weekend might be okay π if I stay locally. Money is kind of tight after my car insurance and rent check π΅ and I thought I had a lot of vacation days but if I take off six days to do West Virginia during the end of October π I will be running low especially if I take sometime mid November to camp out in Cazenovia. I’d like to do some more of the trailway – I’ve actually done most of it – but I’d like to do some of it again.
One possibility is to hike at a local state forest and camp βΊ although the nights are getting cool and long so I may want something more than just a hammock and a flashlight. I thought about Schoharie but I’m thinking that for the following weekend.
Plus I’m just not sure how early it will cloud up and rain π§οΈ on Saturday. Definitely looks a lot wetter up north. I still want to do more of the Catskill Scenic Trail but if I go to Schoharie I want to do more than one night.

Climate change and washboard roads
A benefit of Climate Change: Fewer washboard roads. *
* More severely eroded roads and potholes but less washboard roads…. Washboard roads occur due to the road surface being too dry. Dry roads, especially on dirt only surface develop a series of ridges like an old fashioned washboard which is quite dangerous… It’s like driving on ice as you loose traction if you hit it too fast. Not to mention it’s very taxing on shock absorbers and other components.
