Delmar, New York πŸ“

Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.

A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.

In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.

October 19, 2015 evening

Good evening. Currently 46 degrees and cloudy. Tonight won’t be as cold as last night with temperatures bottoming out well above freezing, around 37. Sunrise tomorrow at 7:12 AM. Tomorrow we get a warm up, I’m calling for 65 degrees. Going to be cloudy with a slight chance of rain, and the breeze will make it feel cooler than what the mercury suggests.

I’m tired. Off to bed in a bed not covered with Line-x.

October 19, 2015 morning

Good morning. Happy Monday! The work week comes back around again. Cold start to the morning, around 28 degrees with deep blue skies above. In Albany looking for 42 degrees at noontime and 52 degrees around 4 PM with some clouds sneaking in during the afternoon.

Literally caught the bus running this morning. I spent last night at my parents house and I didn’t get an early start. It was a cold and dark night in my truck so I didn’t get up real early. When I got home for a shower it was cold as the heat was off but fortunately the hot water pipe didn’t freeze so I had a hot shower and things warned up quickly when I turned on the heat.

Back to work today so I can make some money. Vacation was nice but I tired of driving those steep and narrow windy roads of West Virginia. I will never forget those beautiful hills and hollows but I am sure glad I don’t have to drive them in the winter. That said it was God’s Country for sure. That week went by way too quickly.

October 9, 2015 evening

Good evening. Currently 59 degrees and a rain showers is coming through. Shouldn’t last for long as clear weather conditions but cool is expected through Columbus Day Weekend.

I’m off to bed. Alarm clock is set for six AM which is rapidly approaching. Bought groceries and supplies and did a lot of packing. More to do in the morning. Good night!

October 8, 2015 morning

Good morning. Currently 53 degrees and warming up since the cool start of 44 at daybreak. Later we are looking at a pleasant day around 70 degrees and sunny. Tonight the clouds come in with rain showers on Friday. Cooler and seasonable. The sun returns for a sunny but crisp Columbus Day Weekend. The leaves are starting to turn colors but not much in the city.

Tomorrow is Friday. I will finish packing on Friday and be ready to leave early on Saturday morning. I will hit the bank up for cash on my way out. I could use the ATM but smaller bills are necessary for buying firewood and some primitive campsites. I can get more money if I need to but I hate looking for banks and ATMs in unfamiliar towns.

So the story is told about the tire pressure light. It stayed off this morning, so I guess I don’t get to bitch out the shop for screwing up. I’m a bigot, I like to jump to conclusions about people screwing me with my truck. It’s possible that the tire pressure sensors were properly relearned. Or maybe it takes more than 15 miles for the computer to discover that it’s reading the spare tire rather than one of the tires on the wheels. At this point if the light comes back on I’ll either stop at Hicktown Chevrolet and pay $20 have the tires relearned. Or maybe stop at DePaula GM Parts store and pay $60 and buy a special GM tire pressure sensor relearn tool. I think I can put a button on the dashboard and walk around the truck twice pushing a remote control at the wheel that the turn signal is flashing on.

I guess this is my stop. Have a great day!

October 6, 2015 morning

Good morning. Currently 51 degrees and sunny this morning. Later it will be 70 degrees and sunny. Generally, a nice fall day. Most of this week is expected to continue this pattern.

Heading into work early as I have a morning appointment and didn’t want to get in late because of a bus issue. I also got an early start, so I figured I would catch the earlier bus downtown. More traffic on Delaware Ave at this hour. Traffic is moving well heading downtown via 787.

Tomorrow I’m getting the tires rotated and the truck inspected. It’s a 7:30 appointment but then I’ll have it done. Probably set my alarm clock for 5:45 A.M. because I’m not a real morning person. But Thursday and Friday mornings it won’t be as much of a rush. Saturday and Sunday I will probably be up before dawn as I need the daylight for travel, stopping places, and getting set up at camp before dusk. Days don’t last long these times of year.

Saturday will come before I know it. I’ve been planning and preparing for the trip but ultimately the best plans tend involve. Part of an adventure is the adventure part of it. Stuff happens, as candidate Jeb Bush once said.

October 5, 2015 morning

Good morning, Happy Monday. Currently 41 degrees and mostly cloudy with a few breaks of blue skies. Looking for 64 degrees and more sun later. This evening is expected to be in the 50s and clear with a low of 43. Looking at 6:30 for the sunset and if you’re up early tomorrow morning, you’ll see the Waxing Crescent Moon.

This morning on break I will call around about getting my tires rotated and hopefully I can get that done on Tuesday or Wednesday so I can check that off my list. I keep working on packing and preparing for next week’s adventure.

Because I’m driving all the way out to the southern portion of the Allegheny National Forest on the first day, I need to get an early of a start as possible, which for me means shooting for leaving at 8 AM and being on the road no later than 9 AM. This gives time for occasional stops along the road but still be at camp no later than 5 PM. Sunday’s trip to West Virginia is somewhat shorter but that is good because I don’t know the area and with the best of maps and GPS I’m prone to get lost or the campsites not working out as expected.
