Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany.
A census-designated place (CDP) has been established since 1980 by the U.S. Census Bureau for tabulating the population of what the census has defined as the boundaries of the urbanized area in and around Delmar. The population was 8,292 at the 2000 census, but it was not included as a CDP in the 2010 census.
In 2005, CNN/Money Magazine named the Delmar ZIP Code (an area larger than the Delmar hamlet or CDP) as one of the “Best Places to Live” in America, rating it the 22nd best place to live among what it called “Great American Towns.
All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration with temperatures pushing 64 degrees and expected to reach 71 by afternoon. Rain showers for the evening commute, so take it easy on the way home. The weekend won’t arrive for you if you don’t make it home alive.
Tonight’s sunset is at 4:42 PM for a total of 10 hours and six minutes of daylight. That means 13 hours and 53 minutes of darkness. Seasonable weather for the weekend with a high around 53 and cloudy on Saturday and 50 degrees and sunny on Sunday. It’s called November. At least at this point we are snow free everywhere.
Tomorrow it’s off to White Rocks in the Green Mountain National Forest. I drove to through this area, just north of Manchester VT two years ago but never overnighted there. I also spent little time hiking there as it was pouring rain that morning. But a lot of nice little campsites and very scenic area.
God only knows about the weather for next week and heading up to the North Country. Right now it looks too wet to be worthwhile to take the trip but forecasts change. I’m not going to request the time off until I have more certainty on the weather.
Sixty-three degrees at 10 o’clock on November 5th is pretty much unheard of in Albany but that is the current weather conditions. With a long sleeve shirt and vest on I was sweating on my evening walk. The low for tonight is only 55 degrees and tomorrow will be 72. The early September weather comes to an end tomorrow with rain showers. Seasonally cool but clear weather returns for the weekend. Good but seasonally cool weather through Wednesday.
Rain is expected for the day after Veterans Day through the following weekend – at least showers but normal November weather in the 40s and 50s will make such conditions not nice to be in the woods much less for hunting. I’m not happy about this as I wanted to take that part of the week off to visit Massena/Brasher Falls/Deer River area. I might leave this weekend but I’m hesitant to take any more personal time off after taking so much time off lately. I don’t know, I’ll think about it more first thing in the morning.
This weekend I’m seriously leaning towards a trip to White Rocks National Scenic Area near Manchester VT. Just a single night trip, do some shorter hikes in the daytime, wearing plenty of blaze orange for safety, even though it’s just bow season in VT. I really want to try out the heater before I head out on an extended trip.
Did my evening walk, got the wash done, had dinner bought supplies. The ammo I wanted was overpriced and locked away with no clerk to be found at Walmart so I’ll just stop at Dick’s and pick it uplater. It’s stupid you can’t just handle shotgun shells at Walmart like you can at most normal Sporting Goods Stores or Walmart in Pennsylvania. Deer slugs and small game shells don’t seem to be high theft items by ghetto criminals. Decided to lay in my bed as I’m tired but really it’s a pleasant evening outside.
Good morning on this beautiful fall morning. It’s only 61 degrees but with the bright sun and no breeze feels much warmer. Later today, look for 70 degrees. The midpoint of the day will be at 11:38 AM and sunset at 4:44 PM.
If you’re lucky enough to live out in the country or can get out to the sticks, tonight will be am excellent evening for viewing the northern lights. We don’t all that often get such chances down here in New York State. At 9 PM it will be 54 degrees with only a slight breeze, so it will feel great sitting out in a field looking at the starry skies.
Thinking about heading out of town this weekend. Still deciding on where but probably to the Southern Adirondacks or maybe Schoharie. Maybe the Green Mountains? Going to be a nice weekend by the standards of November in the New York State. If I leave on Friday, I will be driving and setting up in the dark.
Happy Election Day! While this is a somewhat slow, local election year, today is the day to get out and vote, and do your thing. The polls across NY State close at 9 PM tonight.
Good morning on this Election Day 2015. Currently 40 degrees and clear. Sunrise is expected around 6:31 AM this morning. Going to be a nice day around 70 degrees.
Good morning. Currently 39 degrees and sunny. Going to get up to 61 degrees later with beautiful sunny weather. All week long we should have great weather.
