Bennett Hill Preserve

This 155 acre property was a gift of Dr. Jerry Bilinski of North Chatham in 1998 to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. The hill towers over Clarksville, and stands only a short distance from the base of the Helderberg Escarpment. Although the top of the hill is only 400 feet above the surrounding land, it offers striking views of the Helderbergs to the north and west, and Albany to the east.

I guess it’s the end of an era in Clarksville.

They’ve replaced the remaining mercury vapor street lights from the 1930s and 1940s (and the handful of newer high pressure sodium street lights) with LEDs.

So in the case of the mercury vapor lights with their ghastly blue colors, which most cities replaced with energy efficient high pressure sodium in the 1970s, they’ve jumped two generations.

Something so quant though about old mercury vapor lighting in the 2020s, despite being energy hogs relatively speaking and putting out that cold blue light.

April 23, 2023 Evening

Turned out to be a beautiful ending to the weekend 🏞

It really is a beautiful evening with everything greening up. It was such a rainy dark start to the day but it left everything such a beautiful green.

Good evening! Partly clear and 50 degrees at the Bennett Hill Preserve. πŸŒ‡ There is a northwest breeze at 9 mph. πŸƒ. The skies will clear tomorrow around 9 pm.

It was nice seeing the folks. πŸ‘ͺ We had a nice afternoon, Dad helped me get the gears βš™ off my bike 🚲 wheel. I’m still trying to determine the spoke length, I’m thinking 292 mm but struggling to confirm with the online calculators.

We had an interesting conversations πŸ‘₯ and I played out back for a while with the dog. 🐢 I did my wash πŸ‘š and we had dinner. Sausage and peppers, with bread with dipping sauce. I nibbled on some bread and a little bit of sauce but it’s pretty high on calories, sugars and carbohydrates so I didn’t partake like I might have years ago. 🍝 Once you quit that old way of eating that kind of food tastes overly sweet and fatty and it’d hard to really enjoy much of it. Still it was nice to sit around the table with my parents.
