Bennett Hill Preserve

This 155 acre property was a gift of Dr. Jerry Bilinski of North Chatham in 1998 to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. The hill towers over Clarksville, and stands only a short distance from the base of the Helderberg Escarpment. Although the top of the hill is only 400 feet above the surrounding land, it offers striking views of the Helderbergs to the north and west, and Albany to the east.

Good afternoon! Partly sunny and 40 degrees at the Bennett Hill Preserve. There is a east-southeast breeze at 5 mph. πŸƒ. Temperatures will drop below freezing at around 10 pm. β˜ƒοΈ

It’s the Sunday morning hike on Bennett Hill πŸ—» same one I do every week before going out see the folks. Nice day though it started out cold. But it is now starting to feel like a mid March day. Sun angle has been getting a lot stronger the past few days so when it’s sunny out and not too windy it warms up fast.

This afternoon will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 45 degrees at 3pm. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical day around March 15th. East wind 3 to 5 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 16 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1932. 13.5 inches of snow fell back in 1988.❄

Split pea soup πŸ₯™ for lunch at my folks house and then I’ll probably sit out back with the dog 🐢. If I leave early enough I might do a jot up Blodgett Hill. Then I need to get some groceries 🍌, mostly the perishable healthy kind. If not for needing oranges and bananas for work I probably could skip that trip. But I’m eating healthier in my 40s.

Solar noon 🌞 is at 12:11 pm with sun having an altitude of 33.7Β° from the due south horizon (-37.2Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 9 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour πŸ… starts at 4:44 pm with the sun in the west-southwest (245Β°). πŸ“Έ The sunset is in the west-southwest (252Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 5:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 3 seconds with dusk around 5:52 pm, which is one minute and 18 seconds later than yesterday. πŸŒ‡ The best time to look at the stars is after 6:26 pm. At sunset, look for partly cloudy skies πŸŒƒ and temperatures around 42 degrees. There will be a calm wind. Today will have 10 hours and 29 minutes of daytime, an increase of 2 minutes and 37 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be partly cloudy 🌀, with a low of 27 degrees at 6am. 10 degrees above normal, which is similar to a typical night around March 18th.
