Albany, NY

Albany is the capital city of the U.S. state of New York, the seat of Albany County, and the central city of New York’s Capital District. Roughly 135 miles (217 km) north of the City of New York, Albany sits on the west bank of the Hudson River, about 10 miles (16 km) south of its confluence with the Mohawk River. The population of the city was 97,856 at the time of the 2010 census.

Evacuation order lifted after compressed natural gas truck fire on the NY State Thruway

Montgomery County, NY (WRGB) β€” A tractor-trailer transporting compressed natural gas caught fire Tuesday morning on the New York State Thruway, prompting evacuations and a large multi-agency emergency response, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:02 a.m., January 6, 2026, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center received a call from the operator of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on the Thruway. The driver reported that the vehicle was on fire and advised that it was carrying a full load of compressed natural gas (CNG) stored in numerous individual cylinders, which officials classified as a hazardous materials emergency.
