December 3, 2019 Morning

Good morning! If God put it here, he’ll take it away. As will the big dump trucks in city. In other words, Happy Tuesday. Unless of course you have to dig out your car. Next Tuesday is 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ. Partly cloudy and 25 degrees at the Valero. β›… There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. 🍃. There are 20.5 inches of snow on the ground. β˜ƒ Or something like that. I know my landlords plow was struggling. ️Things will start to thaw out at tomorrow around 10 am. 🌡️

The snow stopped early enough ❄ that the Thruway is just wet and the suburban arterial are pretty clear too. Albany streets are narrow and a bit snow covered but they’re plowed. I’m sure once the snow emergency is underway they’ll become much more passable. I took an earlier local bus in today, it’s running close to schedule although we’re bogging down a bit in the city due to the narrow streets with the snow banks. I probably would have walked 🚶 to the express but the sidewalks were icy and who knew if they would be plowed all the way down to the park and ride. At any rate, I fully expect to be into work plenty early. That’s good, it’s going to be a busy one I expect.

Today will be mostly sunny 🌞, with a high of 32 degrees at 1pm. Nine degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical day around December 27th. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. A year ago, we had cloudy skies. The high last year was 46 degrees. The record high of 63 was set in 2009. 5.2 inches of snow fell back in 1893.❄

I shoveled off the truck today 🚘 and brushed off the solar panel again so that should keep the batteries topped off through Sunday. I’m hoping with the amount of snow I brushed off plus the sun β˜€ and warmer temperatures this week I won’t have to clean the truck off this weekend. I find brushing off the truck during the snow storm and right after is much easier then then waiting for the weekend to clean stuff off.

The sun will set at 4:22 pm with dusk around 4:54 pm, which is 16 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌇 At sunset, look for mostly clear skies 🌄 and temperatures around 32 degrees. There will be a northwest breeze at 14 mph with gusts up to 24mph. Today will have 9 hours and 15 minutes of daytime, an decrease of one minute and 19 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a slight chance of snow after 3am. Increasing clouds 🌨, with a low of 23 degrees at 3am. Three degrees below normal, which is similar to a typical night around December 10th. Maximum wind chill around 20 at 6pm; West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%. In 2018, we had partly cloudy skies in the evening, which became mist by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 21 degrees. The record low of -9 occurred back in 1940.

Cool this weekend with temperatures running 6 degrees below normal but otherwise sunny. πŸ˜€ Saturday, mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, partly sunny, with a high near 37. Typical average high for the weekend is 39 degrees.

Being the last weekend of regular season and they’re being a ton of snow on the ground, β›„ I’ll probably stay in town this weekend. Saturday might be a good weekend to go skiing 🎿 assuming that the snow isn’t too icy come the weekend.

As previously noted, next Tuesday is 7:15 AM Sunrise βŒ›οΈ when the sun will be setting at 4:21 pm with dusk at 4:53 pm. On that day in 2018, we had partly sunny skies, mist and temperatures between 36 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 38 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1966.
