December 16, 2020 Morning
Good morning! Happy Tea Party Day π! Honestly if you are going to dump a bunch of tea, π΅ I think it would be better to dump it and mix it with a bunch of manure π© for composting then dumping it in the Boston Harbor β where it can deplete the dissolved oxygen in the water π¦. But I agree ππ» we are over taxed and we tax the wrong things – namely income over carbon emissions and waste generation. πΈ Next Wednesday is Festivus π. I am still banned from my parents meatloaf which is loaded with Worcester sauce after telling them I preferred the stuff a college π.
It’s the calm before the storm. Mostly cloudy and 13 degrees in Delmar, NY. β There is a north breeze at 5 mph. π. Things will start to thaw out at Sunday around noontime. π‘οΈ
It’s a cold morning β and it looks like we are now going to get more snow π¨ than originally expected. But who knows. Kind of cold for my morning walk πΆπ» and I keep putting my phone in my pocket and sticking my hands ππ» there to stay warm. β¨ I guess working from home π‘ means the snow won’t effect me much but it never did because the buses π run regardless of the weather. π It doesn’t look like much snow up north which is good if I want to get up there for Christmas weekend. Debating if I should put a tarp on my truck over the cap and windshield for easy snow removal. βοΈ I like to keep the batteries π trickle charged off the solar when it gets cold.
Today will be mostly cloudy π₯, with a high of 24 degrees at 2pm. 12 degrees below normal. Northeast wind around 6 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies in the morning, which became light drizzle by afternoon. The high last year was 34 degrees. The record high of 55 was set in 1971. 9.5 inches of snow fell back in 1981.β
I have kind of busy day today but I’ll work from home most likely. πΆ Those 3d maps are fun but I need broadband to make them. But it would be a cold day to work at the library parking lot so I think I’ll stay home. The other work stuff I can do from my phone moving the files π to my laptop for editing.
Solar noon π is at 11:52 am with sun having an altitude of 24Β° from the due south horizon (-46.8Β° vs. 6/21). A six foot person will cast a 13.4 foot shadow today compared to 2.2 feet on the first day of summer. The golden hour π starts at 3:38 pm with the sun in the southwest (231Β°). πΈ The sunset is in the west-southwest (238Β°) with the sun dropping below the horizon at 4:24 pm after setting for 3 minutes and 25 seconds with dusk around 4:55 pm, which is 18 seconds later than yesterday. π At dusk you’ll see the Waxing Crescent π Moon in the southwest (220Β°) at an altitude of 13Β° from the horizon, 235,459 miles away. π The best time to look at the stars is after 5:32 pm. At sunset, look for cloudy skies β and temperatures around 24 degrees. There will be a northeast breeze at 6 mph. Today will have 9 hours and 3 minutes of daytime, a decrease of 23 seconds over yesterday.
Tonight will snow, mainly after 8pm. The snow could be heavy at times. π¨ Low of 21 degrees at 8pm. Typical for tonight. Northeast wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 8 to 12 inches possible. In 2019, we had light rain in the evening, which became cloudy by the early hours of the morning. It got down to 26 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1942.
Yeap, it’s going to snow π¨. I think I can probably do my evening walk πΆπ» if I can get an early enough start there shouldn’t be too much snow on the ground and walking in the snow is always nice. Thursday morning maybe not so much but I could strap on skis I guess. πΏ
Today in 1965, the Vietnam War would escalate. π£ General William Westmoreland sends U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara a request for 243,000 more men by the end of 1966.πͺ And in Cleveland, Ohio becomes the first major American city to default on its financial obligations since the Great Depression. πΈ Good ol Dennis Kuchich and the big creditors of the Cleveland Power and Light company. A big set back for the public power industry π. You don’t hear much from Dennis Kuchich anymore but I guess he’s pretty elderly π΄πΌ now. But aren’t we all getting old?
It looks like we will have decent snow for the weekend. β Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 29. Sunday, mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Typical average high for the weekend is 35 degrees.
I am thinking that Saturday would be a nice day for cross country skiing πΏ at Schodack Island State Park. I could then stock up on groceries ππ² at Aldi’s. They have an interesting of variety of things for cheap although less bulk than Wally World.
As previously noted, next Wednesday is Festivus π when the sun will be setting at 4:26 pm with dusk at 4:58 pm. On that day in 2019, we had mostly sunny and temperatures between 50 and 18 degrees. Typically, the high temperature is 33 degrees. We hit a record high of 64 back in 1990.
