Criminal defense lawyers sound the alarm about mass incarceration if Roe falls : NPR

Picture a court of law, jury in place, set to determine the fate of a woman who has had a miscarriage. And she's been charged with murder.

This hypothetical is part of how the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) is training its members to prepare for a wave of criminal charges if, as expected, the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

Only it's not a hypothetical — this happened in 2019. After a California woman delivered a stillborn baby at 8 months, she tested positive for meth at the hospital and the staff called the police. The Kings County prosecutor charged her with the "murder of a human fetus" and she spent 16 months in jail before the charges were dismissed.

I often wonder how my friends from years past made out with their Crypto assets… πŸ’΅

I stayed away as I have a hard time believing its a sustainable investing strategy. It’s not a diversified asset, it’s not based on a physical product and it has few government regulations. So I stayed away.

Granted the people I knew years back who bought Crypto probably did pretty good if they sold it at the high point although if they got out too early or too late they probably would have not made out too well. Seems more like gambling than actually a long term investing strategy. Boring and understandable is good when it comes to money.

I’m also more than a little bothered by the amount of natural resources – electricity, fossil fuels and electronic waste that goes into making the currency grow. The idea that so much resources going into essentially useless mathematical computations seems like such a waste. While many economic activities actually produce real value to real people, Crypto mining just solves useless math equations in the search of monetary growth.

Daily Update – June 16, 2022

Good morning! Happy Thursday.

With the rain showers at six AM I skipped my morning walk but caught the earlier express downtown which was on time and will walk the Plaza before work. Mostly packed and ready to go up north though I might wait until tomorrow depending on the weather.

Rain showers and 69 degrees at the Elm Ave Park and Ride. β˜” There is a south breeze at 13 mph. πŸƒ. The dew point is 58 degrees.

Last night I got packed for heading out of town β›Ί and went to the library πŸ“š and got a bunch of books to read up at camp. Truth be told it looks like a cold weekend for June with highs only in the fifties on Saturday. Looks windy so I’m not sure if I will bring my kayak πŸ›Ά.

I have Friday through Tuesday off, πŸ– and I’ll probably stay off the internet during that time as I won’t have service up in the woods 🌲🌳 and want to do more reading. πŸ“– The phone is such a distraction. I’ll schedule some other posts for the blog and turn off my Facebook tweets avoid vandalism.

I am looking at the forecast for Saturday ♨ and I’m not sure if I should bring the heater or not. I want to have two coolers so they last all four or five nights with the ice and it’s just more stuff to bring but it’s going to be chilly on Saturday with the wind. Decided with the breeze to skip bringing the screen text.

It will be nice to be away, been eight 8⃣ weeks since I last got out of town but with gas prices what they are I figure I have to cut back plus work has been super busy. Who know next weekend might be really hot and I might do Schoharie. Depends. πŸ”₯ Looking forward tonight to having a big fire. Also I think πŸ€” I want to get some ✨ sparkling devices on Monday. I’d like to camp for the Independence Day Weekend πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ but where is undecided.

I am thinking about taking the first week of August off for summer vacation πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ. Those weekends aren’t race weekends at Watkins Glen so it should be quiet in the National Forest. I might take off the Friday before to get the campsite I want by getting there early. Then I’ll have two full weekends to hang out and go there directly to save fuel β›½.
