Scientists have assumed that these mutations were random and that the first step in evolution by natural selection was, therefore, also random. But this may not be entirely true, the new study suggests.
"The idea of random mutation has been around for over a hundred years in biology and is something you hear so often as a student that it is easy to take it for granted," Monroe said. "Even as a practicing geneticist and evolutionary biologist, I had never seriously questioned the idea."
The new finding does not disprove or discredit the theory of evolution, and the researchers said randomness still plays a big role in mutations. But the study does show that these genetic alterations are more complex than scientists previously believed.

It’s going to be so cold again tonight but hopefully the heat will keep up as I turned it up in advance of the cold. Going to want to leave those cabinets open before bed, and make sure I don’t trip over them in the morning. I would like to go for a walk this evening, but I don’t know, it sure looks raw. Maybe instead, I should do a stroll down to the library and get some books, before retiring to bed early. I will probably still walk down to the express bus in the morning but it will be a brisk walk, with wind-chills in the negative territory in the morning. Probably knowing how this goes, by February it will be in the 50s.
Probably I wouldn’t mind the cold so much if I wasn’t paying for the heat, or having to wait for the bus in the cold. But my apartment is just not warm in the cold, and it’s just so miserable. In the summer, it might be hot, but I can get out of town on the hottest days, and the fan is relatively cheap to run.
I know, in the summer I spend a lot more money on fuel, tires and replacing broken parts for my big jacked up truck, heading up to Adirondacks to beat the heat then what I spend on gas and electric even in the coldest weather, but burning gasoline, having fires and drinking beer in woods on a hot summer night is shit ton more fun then sending a check to the Nation’s Gird Corporation of the United Kingdom.

Enjoy the warmth while you can, as it’s not expected to last. I actually left the heat turned up last night, and with temperatures outside reaching 40 degrees, it was uncomfortably warm in my apartment. But I thought the mercury was supposed to be dropping through the night.

There are 4 inches of snow on the ground. ️We had some melting yesterday, but what’s one the ground is going to be around for a while. We didn’t get any snow last night. The skies will clear around 11 am. And cold!
Got my teeth cleaned this morning. I guess they weren’t as bad as I once thought they were. I was a few minutes late for my cleaning appointment, but things were backed up at the entrance, so it wasn’t like I was holding things up. Kind of overslept this morning, after waking up during the middle of the night, then sleeping in a bit later then usual.
I get to bed early, and for a while was doing good but lately I keep waking up at night. But I do find early to bed, early to rise is best prescription for a good nights sleep. Even though morning gets light earlier, the mornings are still so terribly dark. I am ready for April, when can it come? I might do a morning walk on session days, early, once there is more light in the days, so I can get more steps in.
The truth is I wish I could get out of town more during the winter, but it’s tough with the weekends being so cold and snowy, and often the places I like to go having roads close during the winter. And even along NY 8, the snow banks are certainly high along the roads.
