March 17, 2018 Night

Good evening! Mostly clear🌌 and 23 degrees in Delmar, NY. There is a north breeze at 6 mph. Cool night, I’m glad I didn’t go camping although the wind did die down. 🍃.

Tonight will be mostly clear 🌉 , with a low of 12 degrees at 6am. 15 degrees below normal. Maximum wind chill around 6 at 6am; North wind 3 to 6 mph. In 2017, we had mostly clear skies. It got down to 11 degrees. The record low of -8 occurred back in 1900.

Tonight will have a Waxing Crescent Moon 🌒 with 1% illuminated. The moon will rise at 7:53 am. The First Quarter Moon is on Friday night with mostly cloudy skies. The Blue Moon 🌝 is on Good Friday, March 30th. The sun will rise at 7:02 am with the first light at 6:34 am, which is one minute and 44 seconds earlier than yesterday. 🌄 Tonight will have 11 hours and 55 minutes of darkness, a decrease of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over last night.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny 🌞 , with a high of 33 degrees at 4pm. 12 degrees below normal. Cold but pleasant. Northwest wind 7 to 10 mph. A year ago, we had mostly sunny skies. The high last year was 42 degrees. The record high of 69 was set in 2012. 8 inches of snow fell back in 1977.❄

Worked on some various projects around my apartment and went down to the library for a while. 📚 Had dinner, went shopping. A cold day for sure.

I went grocery shopping this evening, hoping to avoid the crowds in the morning. 🍒🍛🍳 This way I can get an earlier start in the morning if it’s not too cold. Also gassed up the truck so I should be good for the weekend. Cumberland Farms was closed when I went there with no power. Looked like their may have been an accident with a semi truck hitting the gas station canopy but it was hard to tell in the dark.

Fixed a buffer overflow on my GPS Logger 🌐and it’s temporarily mounted in my truck. Still fixing some minor bugs in the code but it works well. Added two additional LEDS to the board to show when the card reader isn’t working, when I don’t have a GPS signal and when everything is all hunky dory…. Red, yellow and green leds. You can guess which one is associated with each feature. Blinks for critical faults. Well hidden in my truck but records quite accurately, although sometimes the elevation is messed up. I don’t think GPS elevation is ever all that accurate although I think there is a way to check how accurate the fix is for elevation independent of location. Location and speed recording is very good, especially when you are moving. It’s on switched power so each time the truck starts, a new log is created.

In four weeks on April 14 the sun will be setting at 7:36 pm,🌄 which is 32 minutes and 3 seconds later then tonight. In 2017 on that day, we had mostly sunny skies and temperatures between 64 and 33 degrees. Typically, you have temperatures between 58 and 37 degrees. The record high of 83 degrees was set back in 1968.

Looking ahead, 7:30 PM Sunset 🌇 is in 3 weeks, Tax Day 💰 is a month away, Earth Day 🌎 is in 5 weeks, Cinco de Mayo 🤠 is in 7 weeks, Fathers Day 👨 is in 3 months and Consitution Day 👨‍🏭 is in 6 months.

🇺🇸🦅Only 68 days remain until the start of Memorial Day Weekend!🦅🇺🇸

Great Migration (African American) – Wikipedia

Great Migration (African American) – Wikipedia

"The Great Migration was the movement of 6 million African-Americans out of the rural Southern United States to the urban Northeast, Midwest, and West that occurred between 1916 and 1970."

"Until 1910, more than 90 percent of the African-American population lived in the American South. In 1900, only one-fifth of African-Americans living in the South were living in urban areas. By the end of the Great Migration, 53 percent of the African-American population remained in the South, while 40 percent lived in the North, and 7 percent in the West, and the African-American population had become highly urbanized. By 1960, of those African-Americans still living in the South, half now lived in urban areas, and by 1970, more than 80 percent of African-Americans nationwide lived in cities."

Buffer overflow

Buffer overflow

"In computer security and programming, a buffer overflow, or buffer overrun, is an anomaly where a program, while writing data to a buffer, overruns the buffer's boundary and overwrites adjacent memory locations."

"Buffers are areas of memory set aside to hold data, often while moving it from one section of a program to another, or between programs. Buffer overflows can often be triggered by malformed inputs; if one assumes all inputs will be smaller than a certain size and the buffer is created to be that size, then an anomalous transaction that produces more data could cause it to write past the end of the buffer. If this overwrites adjacent data or executable code, this may result in erratic program behavior, including memory access errors, incorrect results, and crashes."
